Fresh water? o.o Someone say fresh water?
Glub-glub-gurgle-cough-splutter-gulp.
I blink, wiping my face off with a grimy sleeve as I stare into the small pond of fresh water. All of us are leaning over it, having taken hasty gulps to fill our mouths. Ripples and bubbles of sand litter the once clean water...but no one seems to mind.
Nerfe wipes off his mouth. "Okay, where next?"
"Home, that's where!" Yunsi cheers.
"Erm...ha ha, but where's home, exactly?" Fae points out.
"Um...there," says Sar.
"No, there." C: I chime in, pointing two degrees south (or maybe north...who knows?) of her outstretched finger.
"Uh-uh, it's here." Adri squints between us and points right down the middle.
"Bah, you guys don't have a home. I do. And now, it's here." Des flops on the sand, enjoying the glaring sun from behind his light-protective glasses.
Lucky blighter.
"Maybe that's your home, but it's not mine, that's for sure." YYugi joins us on the search.
Chibi-bunni chirps in. "Sorry, I'd help, but I've never been to your home." =S
"Well, I can tell you...it's that way!"
"It doesn't matter which way, anyway. We kinda have to build a boat to sail across this big salty drink."
"Ohhh~ Yeah, let's make one!"
"There's so much wood! We could make an uber-ginormous one." o.o
"Last one to grab one of these over-sized splinters is a rotten orange! Yah!"
----- 3 hours later -----
"Ugh." Tug...tug...tug...
"Snow, you're walking in zigitty-zagitties..."
"Huh?"
I look behind me. Sure enough, the piece of wood I've been trailing along has etched a pretty line behind me.
A pretty crooked line.
"Shut-up," I mutter, yanking the wood out of a particularly stubborn hole of sand. I hiss as another splinter works its way into my hand. Lovely.
"When do you think we'll finish this ship?" Adri asks conversationally.
"You call that a ship?" I raise an eyebrow at the hulking mass of wood before us. So far, all we've managed is a pile. As big as the pile may be, in no way is that going to keep even a pin afloat.
"Okay, then, that raft."
"Raft?"
"Pile, whatever. All the same thing, anyway."
We deposit our contributions, standing alongside the rest of the weary workers. All of our faces are red and sunburnt in some shape or form, like the way the sky looks right now as the sun sets.
"Dude, we're nevvvveeeerrrrrr gonna get this done."
"What a smart observation. We only came up with that 3 hours ago."
"We should find another way to get back home."
"What if we just stayed here?"
It's silent as we all contemplate the idea. Why not? Scorching sands, the teeniest puddle of fresh water, burning sunlight, dead trees...
"Nah," we all chorus.
I pick at the splinters in my hand, thinking a bit. What to do...what to do...
"What if we used all of our items and tied them together into a floaty?" =D
"My OMFG!"
"My seal slippers!"
"My ORLY? hat!"
"My winged sandals!"
"My guitar of angellus!"
"Okay! Let's do it!"
We all collectively glare at Sar, who smiles quailingly. "We could swim..."
"Nah. I go for option A."
Suddenly, half of us are stripping off items, leaving them strewn on the sand. Necklaces, shoes, glasses, headgear, pants, shirts, and other accesories dot the shore, when suddenly, something sucks them up from the sand underneath us.
SHLUPTTT!!!
"Huh?"
"My stuff's gonnnneeee~" someone wails.
"Where'd it go?"
"It disappeared! Magic!" =o
"Whoaa...do it again!" C:
Clink. Clunk.
SHLUPT.
"Stoppit! We shouldn't give the sand god anymore stuff!"
"Sand god?"
"Well, er..."
SHHHLLLLLUUUUPPPPTTTT.
Suddenly, the ground everywhere is being sucked in. Sand is flying everywhere as our legs flail for solid ground, hoping not to get caught in the whirling vacuums at our feet.
"Eek!"
"ACK!"
"Guh." x.o
"RUN!!!"
