Who's stupid idea was it to have a winter bonfire at the beach? DDDx
It's colder than the metal paneling of Aekea after the first frost, windier than an explosive construction fan, and the waves crash louder than the thunder from a bolt of lightning if you're only ten feet away. T____T
As such, I am absolutely miserable as I try to find dry seawood with which to add to our chopped up Christmas tree as fuel. I mean, it would definitely be a bit better if the sun were out, but is it? >.> Nooooo. It's cloudy.
Ha ha, wouldn't it be so fun if it rained on our bonfire? We'd have to go home! =D
Taking the two dry splinters I found farther inland half an hour ago to our little campsite, I dump it on our pile of firewood. Actually, you know, it's rather big.
"SQUUUUUUEAAAAAK! SQUEAK-SQUEAKKKKK--SQUAWK!!!"
I turn at the frightening sounds. Oops, ha ha, Rampage got smooshed under a log.
xDDDDD ROFL.
Looking around furtively and making certain no one's looking, I quickly stuff Rampage's mouth with sand and take the huge piece of driftwood.
"Hey, guys, look what I found!"
As I wave my arm wildly (Rampage bouncing angrily up and down on the sand beside me at the same time), they come over to take a look.
"Whoa, where'd you find that?"
"I only got fifteen splinters and a piece of bark!"
"It's not even wet at all!"
I make up a yarn. "Erm, well, you see...I found it way over...there. To the north. I ran all the way up the beach and tripped over this. I sledded down the dunes with it back." C:
"That's south you're pointing to, not north."
"You tripped on this hulking big thing?"
"And sledded down the dunes?"
"We don't believe you."
Oh. Ha ha?

BOING. "OWW!!!"
Rampage has bulled right into me. I can't even see anything. Hey, is it nighttime already? Thinking about it, my head's kinda sore...
"Ha ha, liar. Rampage found it, didn't you, yer little feller?"
Rampage bounces in affirmation. Purposely, I'm sure, sand is kicked onto me.
"Oh, hey look, it's got sand all over it."
"C'mon, let's go give it a bath."
That statement is followed by an evil cackle. I look up in time to see them hurling my omfg into the ocean. What a salt bath. xD

It isn't until late evening that we're all sitting around a blazing campfire. Actually, blazing is an understatement. It's kinda like...sitting next to a burning barn full of hay. I wonder if my skin's burning from the heat yet?
Swig. Gulp.
"Man, this is gross. Seaweed grog?"
"Hand me some more of the roasted bird."
"Eww, who wants more seaweed? You can have mine."
"I think this oyster's still alive..."
So here we are, nibbling on the delicacies of the sea. I can tell you, it's not very good. Most of the food is either raw or burnt, and nothing seems to actually be cooked properly.
"Geesh, what a New Year's Eve. Don't you think we should have some liquor or something?"
"Yeah, honestly, where's the--"
"Champagne?" a voice calls out from the darkness. Three bottles land with swish and a clink near the edge of the fire.
"Whoa..."
"Alcohol..."
"Who's out there? What do you want?"
A girl peers in through the shadows, then inches over to plop herself between Adri and me. Immediately, she reaches over for some food. Too dubious to stop her, we just stare at her as she makes a face, then throws her food into the fire.
"Me? Oh, I'm Chibi-bunni. Hi."
"Hi," we all echo.
"Well," she says impatiently, "Didn't you all want some champagne? C'mon, it's New Year's Eve..."
"Yep, she's right. We've all got to drink. It's only proper."
"Naw, not even that's proper. You gotta drink until you're...you're..."
"Pissed?"
"Yeah."
Fae grabs hold of a bottle, pulling at the cork, but to no avail. Adri joins her, and both pull at both ends, but nothing happens. Suddenly, Yunsi jumps up, pulls it out of their hands, and slams it against a nearby rock.
Clink. BOOM.
We're all covered it sticky, champagne-tasting fizz.
"Yey!"
"Huzzah!"
"Let the party begin!" xD
