To my all too Gracious Friend:
I am glad that my letter got to you in good condition, and that you liked my gift. I didn't realize that I was smiling the whole time until my cheeks began to get sore. My lips still kept wiggling, though.
Oh dear, the coffee stain. There was a little bit underneath the saucer, and I had put it as a little ceramic weight on the corner of the page. A small draft was blowing from the ventilation system right above me, and I didn't want it to fall into the muddy footprints on the tiled floor. I do believe that the stains would have been worse.
I didn't know that it would be clear these next few days; it is welcome news. I don't like listening to the forecasts. 60% of the time, they predict the dire opposite. It is only the days where it will be painfully obvious what the weather will be that it ever seems right. I go by instincts, and if it does decide to rain, I pay for a newspaper to cover my head with. I always manage to get a little wet anyway.
I am most touched that you have thought to inquire after my health if I have not bothered to inquire after your own. I am fine, if not a bit chilly sitting out here. A cold wind is blowing rather lightly, and the sun bakes my back. It is a strange combination.
How about you? You were, after all, the one being soaked to the bone. I'm horrified that I never thought to ask.
I am indignant that you should think that a little rain should keep me from waving to you from the bridge. It may be a little wet, but that won't stop me. Unless the wind is strong enough to flip my umbrella around (not likely, in the midst of all these buildings), then I shall see about bringing out a newspaper. If you ever see something black and white flapping about from the top of a bridge connected to an arm, it shall be me, waving in the rain and hoping that the ink spatters aren't too permanent.
I hope you find a way to enjoy the weather while it lasts. Seeing as it is nearing autumn, it will start getting chilly. I spend my time drawing outside, or taking nice walks when I can. I'll be locked up for almost all of winter, hoping to stay dry.
It seems early, the clock has not tolled yet. Perhaps I shall fold this up and put it in pocket so I can wait a little earlier at the bridge and wave to you. The sun will be out of my eyes that way.

Well, that's it! I have no clue what autumn is like in Venice, and in no way can I imagine it. It's not filled with groves upon groves of color-changing trees. However, autumns do tend to be colder, so I shall settle with that.
