I felt something driping on my face. I opened my eyes to see Judin leaning over me, but something was wrong. Blood was dripping from his mouth. When my sluggish mind came into focus, I soon realized in horror what had happened.
Judin was leaning over me with his hands on my bed. A drop of blood landed on my cheek as he coughed. Judin's eyes were shut tight and he was crying, He swallowed hard. His arms were shaking, barely able to support the weight of his weakened body. A tear landed near my mouth. He opened his eyes, I've never seen him look scared and sad before.
"I'd promised I'd protect you," he choked and then coughed again," It looks like you're on your own again."
" Don't say that!" I cried. I sat up fast and hugged him," Don't ever say that." I repeated softly as my voice shook.
His hands finally got too weak to support his weight . Judin's whole body was against mine, but still, I sat straight.
"I'll never forget..." He whispered in my ear,"Our promise."
I hugged him tighter," I won't forget our promise either. And that's a promise of mine."
" Judin made a small laugh that eventually turned in a hoarse cough,"Me too."
I couldn't help it. I cried into his shoulder. His blood covered my sheets, my dress, and my face. I didn't care. I didn't want to lose him... not again.
" I'll do anything it takes," I gasped between sobs," To save you."
" I know you will." He replied softly and let go. Temperarily, I hoped.
