Forgive me, but I totally need to rant today.
You see, I'm in an Oral Communications class where we've been getting around to finally presenting our group projects. Well, only two of the four groups can go each class because they're half-hour speeches in an hour-long class. Whoopie. Now, I'm the group leader for mine, and we had planned to go Friday. One group had gone Wednesday (as we only have the class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) so two more should go on Friday, and one on Monday.
Now, I found out that my mom's wedding day was on Friday, not on Saturday as I had thought it was. Adding to that, the drive was about three hours each direction, and we needed time to get the groom's son from his school and get dressed for the occasion (as we were no way driving three hours in a bridal dress and gowns). Thus, this trip would take pretty much our whole day, with the wedding scheduled for 2:00 pm. Therefore, seeing as I was not missing my mother's wedding, I had to miss Friday's class.
I figured I ought to email my group to let them know I wasn't going to make it Friday, leaving us to Monday's slot. I go to the wedding feeling good. The wedding was botched up until the actual event (as nothing else went well that day, and really the ceremony was amazingly short even for a courthouse wedding) and we managed to get ourselves (being my sister and myself) heading back home by about 3:00 pm. We get home about 5:30 pm (traffic being very kind on the return) and I go to check for replies by my group.
Lovely. One reply. Saying they went without me. A freaking 300 point project (equalling about three test grades, and taking a lot of our grade since we've only had few projects or tests) and they went without me?! What am I supposed to do now, to make THIS up! A solo, one person, single participant, "group" project? Which I will have to find a new topic and research it, and then present alone?
You know, he said their reason was because they didn't want to wait and be penalized for being late. Funny, since we'd have to have at least one group go on Monday anyways, so it would NOT have been late to wait one more friggin class period! I mean, what was I supposed to do? Say, "oh, sorry Mom! I'd love to be at your wedding, but giving a speech in class, which I could do Monday, is just too important to waste on your special day! I'll see you when you get back from honeymoon. Bye!" Yeah, like I'm doing that for them. My loss would have been far greater than theirs, and really, the only thing they would have lost was to have to wait until Monday. Oh, the horror!
Apparently, too horrible for them. I won't forgive them for this. If I fail this class, the final withdraw date has long since passed. I'm stuck with my grade. I would never have done that to them, even if it meant really being late. I'd rather be penalized a little than to leave someone with nothing.
People I had thought were the best for my group, ended up with me seriously disliking them. I'd say "hate," but I've been worse wronged than this to say "hate" about them. However, I hope they don't expect me to be friendly upon my return Monday. I hated what they did to me, even if I don't completely hate them. I won't be the floor-mat and say "oh, I understand. It's okay." Nope, nothing doing.
This rant didn't help my temper as it should have. I still want to rip something apart. Forgive me.
