Okay, this is my real mom that I'm talking about by the way. Her birthday was today and we, my mom, sister, and myself, went to celebrate by eating at O'Charley's. While there, they were playing the NCSU and UNC game, to our joy and delight. While our server and one of the cooks were avid UNC fans, the manager was a NCSU fan, most likely the only vocal State fan there, was grossly outnumbered. Why? Regardless as to where I EVER go to school, I bleed Carolina blue.
So...the manager thought it would be funny to give us updates on the same game that we were watching, noting when State was only lagging UNC by a few points. Gradually, he came to the point of not updating us anymore because UNC was pulling so far ahead. My sister, never one to miss an opportunity to taunt, said "Oh, what happened? You run out of fingers to count on? Need a foot or two?" Needless to say, he was State red with embarissment at his team losing. But then again, it was UNC vs. State...what else was to be expected!?
A joyous birthday gift for my mom. I also had an apple pie and the manager just HAAAAAAAAAD to have a piece. That was fine...he could have his humble pie because I left more than half the pie to the other two UNC fans working that night.
We've had some hard times lately, mainly the layoff of my mom and my sister's search for a much better job, but I think we'll pull through just fine. It's rather interesting think about it now though. I tend to be a jinx on people's lives when I'm around, but it seems like the opposite now. Or perhaps, it's more so because I still have a tight emotional bond with them that they're still affected. Eh....
Good times, good times.
