Now that is strange.
How can a gossip be someone who spreads rumors and also a close friend and companion?!?! That makes no sense at all! Close friends don't go round telling random people what you've been up to! The complexities of the English Language!
So, why am I wondering about gossip?
Well, mainly because of the randomness of my life over the last four months. Recently I've heard a few corking rumors about myself, all entirely ridiculous, but strangely amusing! And given my current situation I'm just sat here waiting for the next round of schmoose. I can't wait to hear what I've allegedly been up to this time!
But it's made me wonder how people can believe such outrageous stuff.
After all, don't we all know that rumors are just a grown-up version of Chinese Whispers?

The most amazing thing about the gossip I've heard in this town is that the more absurd the rumor, the faster it goes and the more people hear it!
It's almost like there's some kind of sick mathematical equation that denotes just how many people will hear that apparently you boinked your boss and are now expecting quintuplets.
I mean, if I really was a Colombian Drug Baroness for three weeks then why aren't I now? And that begs the question, where the hell did all my illegal earnings go?
And why is it that I'm not from Colombia?

Rumor travels faster, but it don't stay put as long as truth.
Which introduces timespan into the equation. Even the most interesting and entertaining rumors are forgetten in less than a month. Surely if people believe this stuff enough to tell all their friends then it should keep going round and round.

Until you've lost your reputation, you never realize what a burden it was.
I vaguely remember having a reputation. I'm not sure it was a good one though.
But I do remember that it was difficult to live up to all those expectations and pre-conceptions that people had about me. At first the rumors hurt and I wondered why people felt it so neccessary to talk about my private business and twist the truth to make me look bad. I came to the conclusion that it was because their lives were so sad and boring that they had nothing better to do than speculate about my full and exciting life. Even if it's really not that full or exciting. Well, if that's what makes them happy then why fight it?
That realisation has made me see things in an entirely different way.
The more bizarre the rumors get the funnier I find them! I even have my own favorite rumors that I've heard about myself. One day I think I might start a rumor about myself, not sure what yet, it'd have to be something completely fantastic! Then I'll time it and see how long it takes to get back to me.
So, as I sit here waiting for the next round, I look forward to hearing about my sinful exploits and cunning, wicked dealings with the criminal underworld!
Bring it on you gossip-mongers! I could use a good laugh!
