The dark-haired boy sauntered slowly down the well-lit hallway of NERV HQ. He didn't want to be here, but he always seemed to find himself in this same place, with the same destination in mind. Perhaps it was because in this place, he felt needed and important. Of course he was important. He was the Third Child and the designated pilot of Evangelion Unit-01. He was, in fact, the only one who could pilot the machine, or being.
Evangelions were beings made from Adam, Mankind's god. That's what made Unit-01 so special and valuable, for Unit-01 was created from Lilith, the Mother of Mankind. The Evas were incased in armor that acted as a restraint to keep them under control, almost like a pet on a leash. Animals are sometimes able to break free of their leashes, as are the Evas sometimes able to break free of their restraints. Well, one in particular. Evangelion Unit-01 once broke free of it's restaints, and it almost cost the Third Child dearly.
Shinji Ikari found himself on the bridge that over-looked Evangelion Unit-01. He stared at the beast for what seemed like an eternity, and the beast just placidly stared back. The Eva knew that Shinji was there, but couldn't awknowledge the presence of young Ikari.
