It was a cool night, beautifully lit by the golden torches that lined the castle wall and the crescent moon that hung delicately in the night sky. The dancing flames of the torches conjured up shadows that danced over the textured stone of the wall and, upon close inspection, revealed the irregular groves in it that could pass as stepping stones to the top, Alice was grateful for. Step by step the angel crawled her way down the barrier, her flaming red hair whipping about in the wind behind her contrasting quite a bit against the alabaster rock of the wall, she had to be quick. Her body was hugged by off white body armor that allowed for free movement but at the same time was lightly padded to offer some protection against attack, what she always wore when she snuck away to train with some of the soldiers out side the castle walls. She sighed once on the ground glad to be done with her excersises for the night, her muscles ached and her knees threatened to buckle beneath her, but she stood strong. With a half chuckle she scrunched her nose, "Ugh, i stink," she mumbled before heading off to her room to clean up.

She hadn't been out of the shower for more than three minutes when she hear the call, "ALICE!" She cringed away from the sound and growled lightly as she fished out a gown from the wardrobe and slipped it on. It came again, "AAALLLLIIIIIIICCCCCEEEEE!" a piercing almost nasally voice, her stepmother, Jade. A small click was heard behind her as someone slipped in the room and Alice sighed, "What does she want now?" she asked as she turned to look at her older brother, Asher, just as she finished zipping up the gown. He grinned at her, "Training again?" he asked as he walked over and helped her straighten out her dress. She winked. Asher was her only sibling and they were ridiculously close. He was about three years older than her with ashy blond hair and piercing grey eyes, and very handsome. Ever since her father had gone on his ridiculous crusades Asher had stepped up in command and since then, looked older and more worn, burdened with things that were not his to carry. The call came again and the siblings sighed simultaneously, laughed at each other, sighed again, and walked out arm in arm. They followed the shrieks to just out side the castle where a petite bold woman stood by a carriage, "Alicia Elizabeth Sinclair," she began sternly, "You're late, you've been sched--" The rest was tuned out and Alice laughed desperately as she hugged her brother before getting carried off to a carriage that had been prepared for her. Once inside she sighed and leaned against the window, unknowingly waving goodbye to Asher...for quite possibly the last time.

"WHAT?! Are you INSANE woman?!" Alice jerked up in her seat and clenched her hands at her sides into trembling, white knuckled fists. Jade flinched back, surprised at the sudden outburst before regaining her composure and clearing her throat, "It is the only way to make peace with the demons -" "My father will have your HEAD!! When Asher finds out he'll--" she was cut off, "He will do NOTHING, because it is not IN his power to do!" Jade's tone was sharp now, "You WILL marry their prince, and you WILL bring this war to an end!" "GO TO HELL!" The older woman gasped, "Alicia!" "Jade," she mocked back before kicking out the door of the carriage and swinging out. The guards that rode at the side were caught by surprise and were too busy dodging the door to stop the young princess from fleeing into the shadows of the surrounding forest.

Alice landed in a crouch and was quick to run towards the brush, unaware of her escape the carriage kept going. She could already hear the guards yelling at the driver to stop, no doubt some were turning around to look for her as well. So she ran, as fast as she could for as far as she could, but something was different. With each step she took and each tree she passed things seemed altered, darker somehow, and with a small gasp she realized she was now in demon lands, "I didn't realize we were this close to the border already," she mused to herself, but she wasn't scared, more curious than anything. She walked on.
