I'm done saying "How are you?" Finished, never saying it again. Even. Becuse I'm tired of it. I'm tired of feeling like I have to care about your well-being just because I'm starting a conversation with you. I'm tired of the expectations I believe people have for me whether they're real or not. So I'm not conforming any more, to anyone. Not you, or anyone else in society, or society in general. I'm just not going to do that any more.
Besides, you deserve better. You, people who are reading this and those that never will, you deserve to be treated like a thinking, feeling human being. Not like a machine, where in order to commence communication, one must input "How are you?" and to any response given, reply with a vague, trite statement such as "Oh, that's nice," or "Aw, too bad." No, I'm done with that. Even if I don't care about you, I'm still not going to ignore you or be nice just because I feel I have to. I'll tell you that I don't care, but I'll be polite about it. Because you still deserve to be treated like a human being.
This next sentence is the last time I'm saying How are you? ever. Never again will I say/type/write/whatever that phrase ever again, and if I ask you about your life, your feelings, your thoughts, it's because I truely care about you. And of course, feel free to start a conversation with me any way you like. I'd love to hear from you.
