I'm unemployed right now, (and have been since the start of my weight loss journey. Blah! Being a school teacher in this budget cut world is not fun) so I definitely understand what it's like to have a MAJOR budget to work with while trying to lose weight.
My way of getting motivated in the beginning was kind of childish (a friend and I had a huge fight, she called me all kinds of names such as fat) and I decided that I was at least going to lose weight to be at the size she was, and then I wanted to be thinner than her. Blah, but it kept me motivated and got me on a routine and a schedule. Now, I rarely think about that person, I just know that I get up to work out. The things that helped me (I'm the same height as you, but I started out much heavier) was having a good routine. Sticking on schedule has been really great for me. I work out before bed (I wish I could work out during the day, but I can rarely find the time to do so) and I always have time, before then, and so that works for me. Finding a way to track what I would eat and counting calories was key. I use LoseIt, and that helps me keep track of my diet and my exercise. In the beginning, I didn't particularly go out and buy healthier food per se. I shop where the sales are at to make my buck stretch, and I went online to find ways to make healthier dishes with the things I had. Like, I used to have chicken and mashed potatoes a lot. Or some kind of meat and potatoes kind of thing, but I ended up finding a way to doctor up my
