Before I start, I feel the necessity to mention that I was in fact born and raised in the United States, and remain a citizen today. You do not have to like or agree with my ideas, nor do you have to act on them if you do agree. All I ask, is that you listen.
In this country, there are many issues that absolutely need to be addressed. These issues are the War on Terror, the fact that our president is trying to have us ruled by God, and our current immigrant situation. Before I adress these with my own personal views, I beg you to understand that I do this with only my good intentions, and the hopes that others will feel as I do, and something can be done.
That said, this generation, my generation, needs to step up. While I do not completely oppose the war we are currently in, I do oppose some of the things we are currently doing with it. Yes, to take Sadam out of his rule was a wonderful thing, however, to try to force our American oppinions on those people is not. They were taught different things than we were, and if the women desire to cover their entire bodies but their eyes, it is not for us to decide. They learned that the only person who should be allowed to see their bodies was their husbands, and I personally see nothing wrong with that. They now have their choice, let them make it. Furthermore, to continue on in Iraq is also not our place. Once they have their government set up, it is high time we get our soldiers out of there and let Iraq continue on its own. The U.S. needs to stop saving everyone else in the world, and start saving it's own people for once. Or have we all forgetten about New Orleans? Now, I'm not saying to stop helping other countries alltogether, but why not try to get America back on its feet? There are pleanty of vitims of Hurricane Katrina who can not afford to live anymore, because their insurance agencies went bankrupt. How is it that we turned our backs to them but not to those in a country that hates us? The poverty level in this country is absurd, the taxes are insane and unjust in their ways, and no one says a word.
Why is it that in this country no one cares that the rich get richer as the poor stay poor? Why is it that in this country drug dealers can be on welfare when they have more money than most, but my single mother with heart disease cannot? I could not tell you the answer to that, other than the fact that these things are not looked into. If I could, I would also tell you the reason that our people do not stand up for what is right, but complain that our contry is corrupt.
On another note, I have found that our president is not a president at all, but a puppet who sees fit to rule a contry of diversity through a single-minded religion. Our constitution states that we have freedom of religion, freedom of speach, and many other personal rights. These days, I'm not entirely sure how much of that is true, seeing as how all phone calls are monitored, and even this has been monitored. Our freedoms have been limited by beliefs. I am a female, and if I was homosexual, I would not be legally allowed to marry another woman. Because of someone else's beliefs. On that note, I'd like to mention that it is illegal to discriminate based on race, age, or gender. Some people feel that homosexuality is wrong, based on their religious beliefs. Also, some people believe that they have had alien encounters. You are in fact entitled you your own personal beliefs, however, and I quote from a banner I saw by alias Diet Otaku, "You are not entitled to revoke another person's rights, based soley on those beliefs." This is unconstitutional, single-minded, and downright wrong. Marriage may be in the dictionary as the union of a man and a woman, but this dictionary has also added the word "Bling" to the English language. Bling is not a word, and marriage is not discriminating, just as love is not.
The last thing I would like to discuss with you is the immigration situation that our country is in. At this moment in time, I do not believe it is a good idea to let people in our country so easily. There are not enough jobs in this country for the people who were born here, not even to begin on the people who came here and the people who jumped the border. I personally believe that until we get this country more stable, we should put immigrants on hold. We are not the only country they can go to to escape their own third-world countries. America has changed from the land of opportunity to a land of poverty. Our government needs to step up and adress this problem, to create more jobs for the people in it.
Other than the lack of good jobs, there is another immigration issue. Do you remember the bird flu? Of course you do, we've all heard about it. They told us it was never going to come to the U.S., they told us that we were safe. Now, all of a sudden, there is a new flu virus in people, that was not here before. They are telling us that this is not the bird flu. I have never heard anything so ridiculous in my lifetime. Can the people in this country not put two and two together when the goverment fabricates lies so that we feel safe? Apparently not. Now, how did it get here you ask? That is a simple question to answer. It came through our lenient immigration policy. However, there's no way the terrorists can get in, right? Wrong. If we don't even test our immigrants for diseases and sickness, how do we expect to keep the terrorists out? I couldn't tell you the answer to that question either, because I don't think anyone knows it.
This country is in chaos, what with the gas prices, diseases, and lack of courage, we are the same as Germany was when Hitler came to power. We are ruled by our fear, of fear of things that are different. I don't know you, and I don't know your feelings on these things, but I say that it's about time the people of this country joined together and did something. It's about time that people forgot their differences and stood together for the sake of everyone, for the sake of theirselves. If nothing is done, what is to stop this once land of the free, from becoming another tyranny, or even a breeding ground for disease? If you agree with me, if you are tired of fearing your goverment and being a slave to the beliefs of others. Stand with me. Speak your mind. Don't just sit there, call your mayor, your senetor, your state representitive. Do something about it. We are the United States of America, and it's about damn time we united for a reason. Now, who has the courage to stand with me?
