Katlynn awoke the sound of the high pitched beeping of her blue alarm clock. She groaned and pounded her fist on the off button and pulled the covers farther over her head. A knock sounded at the door.
" What....? " Katlynn asked grumpily. The door opened a crack an a woman with fire colored hair stuck her head through.
" Katlynn, Its time to get up... you don't want to be late for school do you? look honey, I have to leave for work and won't be home until later at night. If you want you can call dad and ask him to pick you up after school. Or you can go over to Betsy Robinson's house. got it? " Katlynn nodded her head to show that she understood.
" Love you mom..... " She said lifting her hand in a half wave.
" Bye dear. I love you! " Her mother blew a kiss a walked out of the room shutting the door with a soft click. The room was silent for a while then Katlynn threw off the covers and got out of bed walking into her closet. she flicked on the light and started digging through piles of clothes. After about 10 minutes of rummaging she came out with a low-cut blue frilly tee-shirt and some embroidered black jeans. she pulled them on and walked into her bathroom. Katlynn looked in the mirror a cringed at her reflection. There was bags under her eyes and her long blonde hair looked like a rat had slept in it. She brushed her hair,put it up in a messy bun, put on some simple make-up, and slipped on her many bracelets. Katlynn walked down the stairs into her pale tan kitchen and grabbed some breakfast bars and her backpack and was out the door. Katlynn's Punk-rose gray and black slip-ons softly thumped against the wet ground as she ran towards the bus stop. She slowed to a stop as she neared the bus stop sign and sat down on the bench breathing heavily.
" Katlynn, You really need to empty out that back pack of yours occasionally... " A voice sounded behind her.
" Oh but Nicole, you know everything in here is special to me " Katlynn said sarcastically while turning around on the bench. A girl was walking towards her a playful smile on her face. She was wearing a black shirt with a big pink furry scull on it, and some black jeans with a number of holes and patches on them. chains were hanging from the belt loops making a clanking sound whenever she took a step with her right leg. Her clumpy black hair had different colored strings in it and a dark pink messenger bag hung on her shoulder. The girl named nicole laughed and went and sat down beside Katlynn her bag falling to the ground with a clang.
" Kay, how about this. On Saturday I'll come over to your house and we'll clean it out, Again....." she shook her head, putting her hand on katlynns shoulder.
" you really need to work on being more organized, Katlynn you'll never make in the real world without me... " they both laughed and Katlynn replied
" Well then you will just have to live with me to make sure i won't die of suffocation from my own junk. " Katlynn smiled.
" whatda say? "
" I say no! I don't want to have to live with both you AND my future husband. We would spend more time cleaning up your messes than anything else... " Nicole playfully punched Katlynn in the arm the turned to look at the road so that she could see if the bus was coming. they talked for a couple minutes and the n the bus arrived and they both got on. Katlynn said
" Hello! " to the bus driver and went and sat in an empty seat at the back of the bus. She motioned for Nicole to come and sit next to her. nicole nodded and sat down.

Katlynn walked off the bus and entered the school building and walked down the halls occasionally waving to one of her friends. When she reached room 204 she stopped and walked in shutting the door softly behind her. She walked over to an empty desk and sat down putting her bag at her feet.
" Good morning miss Burke, Its nice to see that you not late today. "
" Ms. Cade its Katlynn not miss Burke. " Katlynn said shaking her head.
" fine, fine Katlynn then " Ms.Cade said throwing her hands up in the air.
" Go and be all preppy! "Said Ms.Cade
" I am not being preppy! I just don't want to be called by my first name! " Kaltynn Shouted pounding her fist against the table.
" Well don't get all prissy about it. I wouldn't want you to ruin your hair, Miss Burke " Katlynn stood up so fast her chair fell backward and hit the floor.
" You b***h! Say that to my face! I dare you... "
" Oh you dare me eh.....? well then I guess I'll just have to do it...... Miss Burke calm down your hair is getting fizzier by the moment..... I can se it fighting to get out of that ponytail.... Oh gross its almost alive! " Ms.Cade said mockingly. Katlynn ran up to the front of the room and smartly slapped Ms.cade across the face. then she ran towards the door
" Mabey next time you'll listen to me when I tell you not to talk to me like that! But I don't plan for there to be a next time cause I'm transferring classes! " Katlynn said as she slammed the door behind her. Katlynn ran down the hall and out the door slamming through it and almost knocking over someone.
" Hey! Watch it! " they yelled after her. but she wasn't listening, her anger was in control. and slowed down and rested against a tree. Tears of anger rolled down her cheeks, dripping onto the grass below her.
" why does she have to be such a b***h? She acts like shes he queen of the world or something like that..... Why doesn't she understand????? " She slammed her fist against the soft ground pulling grass out then dropping it on the ground. She sat there for a while more then pulled her self up and walked into the school. Going imedeatly into the office. she stood by the front desk waiting for someone to notice her. A small black haired woman came up the the desk
" Oh Katlynn! Its you.... what a nice pleasure. Is there anything I can help you with? " She asked
" Hi Cathy, Yes you can help me. I would like to change my homeroom class please. " She nodded at her then walked over to an old Mac and tapped away at the keys clicking occasionaly.
" Would you like to go to Dave's class? He has room for one more person. " Katlynn toyed with her hair then answered.
" Sure, " She shrugged. Cathy got out of the chair walking over to the printer. It wirred and a paper, came out. she grabbed and walked over to Katlynn handing it to her.
" Give this to him and things should be fine. He is trying out something new called an expedition, where you study a main subject for three trimesters and put on some kind of show. He is making a circus. you will have to work extra hard to catch up but he started recently so you only need to do like 2 papers. i think thats it... " Katlynn nodded taking in the information and making a note of it. She Said a brief
" Thank you. " Then walked out into the now empty hall. She hurried to room 204 and lightly rapped on the door. she heard a muffled
" Come in " And walked through the door. Dave was a middle aged man with brown hair and a slight beard. He ha wrinkle marks by his his eyes from smiling so much. He was wearing a blue stripped shirt and corderoy pants.
" And who is this? A message from the principle? " He asked stretching his hand out to take the note. Katlynn put it in his outstretched hand and waited for his answer.
" hmm.... well then take your seat and I'll talk to you later about the missed work.Katlynn right? I suspect Cathy told you about the Circus? " He peered at her through his glasses. Katlynn nodded and took a seat near the middle of the room setting her bag down beside her. She pulled out a lined sheet of paper and marked down what he already had on the board. It was Algebra, her least favorite. She did her work in a daze not really paying attention.
" Katlynn? " Katlynn sat up straight and blurted out
" X=27 and A=1 " She smiled embarassed at being caught not paying attention.
" Yes thats nice dear but I asked you to open the window for me... " He smiled.
" Oh... " Katlynn got up and went to the window opening it then hurying back to her seat as she truned bright red. She slupped down at her desk wishing she could simply sink into the ground. Thankfully the rest of the class passed uneventfully and she escaped without her dignity being injured even more.
Katlynn walked out of the class as the bell rang. She hurried to her class knowing that Nicole would be there. She reached science class an extra five minutes. and of course Nicole was standing there waiting for her. She ran up to her and jumped on her back. She screeched and turned around
" Thomas! I've told you no back humping! Oh its you Katlynn, why are you here so early? " Katlynn laughed and answered
" Girl I got news! " Nicole waved at the air and slung an inaginairy handbag over her shoulder, she looked at Katlynn and siad with a smirk and a wink.
" Well I'm ready now. cough it up " Katlynn smiled and explained what had happened when she had left. Nicole laughed went she said that she had slapped Ms.Cade and held her hand up for a high five. They slapped hands and said in unison
" Fabulous! " They broke out in laughter then hurried into the classroom hearing the bell.
