There's something I can't stand when it comes to role playing. You don't know what a person is thinking in real life, how would you know what they're thinking in a role play?
There're tons of people in life that are great at reading body language. They can tell a lot about you by the way you walk, your every facial expression, and even the way you hold your shoulders. If, however, you don't describe these things in your role play, how will the other character know? It then becomes a form of god modding. "I know what you're thinking because your shoulders are slumped." Where in my post did I say my shoulders were slumped or even that I had a certain look? You just moved my character... GOD MODDING!
The other common option is being a mind reader. If you're in a fantasy role play, this is totally cool. Just... make sure the people you're "reading" don't have freaking shields. If you're in a fantasy role play, many of the characters have powers. Most people with powers have been trained to keep mental shields in place all the time... even when they're sleeping. If they're like that then you can't read their mind. Check in OOC before reading someone's mind.
