Gyah! It's summer. I guess the thought just hit me like a rock that I should be building my resume for next year. How am I going to get an internship and all that if my resume is completely blank?! *panics* ...I haven't even worked in a research lab and all that.
Just random thoughts. (Plus, this is the first journal entry in a long time...I look back and realize I was writing about the last Harry Potter book... )

DUMBLEDORE WHY?????!!!!!!!!! |

gonk gonk gonk
If you haven't read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, stop here...I'm warning you.
gonk gonk gonk
Dumbledore? Why?? It's like telling me Grandpa's dead.. Although in all actuality I was expecting it. Though I didn't want to admit it, the paper printed a very convincing article. (From the AP, of course.)
Well, I am convinced that RAB is Regulus. From a writing standpoint, it's the only thing that makes sense. Introducing a new character when the book is about to end would really take the steam off of the storytelling. It'd ruin the pacing... Plus, for all those people that really don't bother to figure it out..it'd be a real AHA moment..(and for all those 7 year olds reading it).
I gotta say, this book is way more mature than the others...V_V I'm sure little kids had nightmares of Dumbledore getting murdered. Why Snape? Sevy didn't mean it I'm sure...It was just part of Albus' master plan to get Harry to kill Voldemort by inspiring him with his death...And Snape would get even closer to Voldy...close enough to find out where his Horcruxes are....
I just can't wait for the next book to come out! I suppose I'll be a sophmore in college by then.. crying

DC and Me: The Sightseeing |

I do realize that this is just a tad...(a month and a half) after I finished the trip, but the journal's for everyone who didn't go on the trip with me..and cares enough to read these maddeningly detailed posts.
So, we took a took of the city! "Illuminated Night Tour" it said on the itinerary. Ha. It wasn't illuminated at all, because the second the tour actually got going a tempest swung into DC. It was actually kind of fun, because the city got completely dark and cold. (Dementors! @_@) The only interesting is that it caused a Port-o-Potty to fly (!) across the road and hit us...
And our guide, was ironically, Canadian. His name was Rudy and, according to Natalie, is her future husband after Alan Rickman. He knew all the minutae about DC--all the random buildings that no one cared about...like the Department of Printing...the National Post Office...and the National Museum of Native American Art (which, incidentally, has no right angles in it.)
We stopped at the Jefferson Memorial, and I liked way better than the Lincoln Memorial...if I mentioned this before...ignore it. It just seemed so much more regal... There was this massive bronze statue of Jefferson. Apparently, FDR had the trees in front of the monument removed so he could always see Jeffy from the White House. How touching. Circling around the momument was an inscription that read
"I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."
Take that, Lincoln! We were actually supposed to go see the White House. It turned out that there were snipers stationed in front of it...hidden in the trees and on the roof...Our guide even warned us not to attempt to climb the fence because we'd be shot on site! How great. These are the kinds of things that make a trip special. I really wanted a picture of the sniper on the roof, smiling and posing with his rifle. I tried to get his attention..but he didn't wave back.

After bitterly leaving the Capitol, we drove to Virginia to eat. And that 30 minutes left us just enough time to brood and become more bitter, but not enough time to cool down.
We stoppped at this restaurant called MaGill's...Ms. Stone called it a cross between Gatti's and Golden Corral. I really liked the food...It was great! I can't describe how great it was...V_V They had pizza, spaghetti, and (actually) decent tacos for being so up north. They had almost every kind of drink imaginable....but I couldn't find the water tab, so I accidentally got steaming hot water for coffee...Aaron laughed at me..V_V The food was so good, I (almost) forgot about the Capitol.
They had a souvenir shop in the store, so I ended up buying T-shirts for $5...they store was manned by an Asian lady with a cute accent. "You want shirt? 2 fo' ten dolla." I got Thomas a cute teddy bear shirt with the Washington monument and the Capitol on it...and I got a I heart DC shirt....And they had an arcade, so I was happy.
With a full stomach, happy heart, souvenirs and a couple of games of Galaga Lindsey leaves MaGill's giving it 5 out of 5. heart heart heart heart heart --VA

DC and Me: The (Damned) Capitol |

So when we finally got to Washington, we stopped in a hotel in Bethesda, Maryland. It was a really nice hotel with a gift shop, spa, pool, exercise room, room service--all the perks. I bought Kassy some crab chips there. I don't know if she ate them or not...
It turns out that I'm allergic to Washington. The city is constantly under construction and there was so much smog my allergies went crazy. It resembled having a really severe cold. I was miserable. Flinch said that no one would be able to see all of the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in 2 hrs, but Danny, Amy and I did that. ... 3nodding
We saw the skeleton of a giant sloth. If sloths were stilll that size, I'd have a heart attack. We also saw the skeleton of an early whale. It was less round and more snake like. The bulk of the whale was in the front, with two small fins, and a massively long whip-like tail. It covered the whole hall!
I also saw the Hope Diamond. Call me critical, but I was disappointed. I expected it to be massively huge from all the hype about it. It was incredibly clear and of good quality, tho. I absolutely loved the pearl exhibit. They had Marie Antoinette's earrings there, as well as Elizabeth Taylor's. And! They had one of the rarest diamonds--a deep crimson one.
I went crazy taking pictures! The dinosaur fossils were awesome. It really gives you a sense of perspective about how powerful they were. But, I still expected the T-Rex to be bigger. sweatdrop
The Air and Space was great, but we were there for almost no time..I took pictures of the Spirit of St. Louis, Sputnik, and the first missle. They had all the great airplanes like the SR71 (Blackbird), The Enola Gay (which dropped the A-Bomb during WWII) and the Wright Brothers' original biplane. However, all the big things were a shuttle away. We had to eat ridiculously expensive McDonald's food ($9 a combo!!). The fact that we were paying twice as much as we usually would've drove us crazy. Plus the fact that that was all we ate for the 33 hrs we drove up to DC.

On the Way to the Washington Trip |

So this is one MASSIVE post as an update for the Washington trip, in case I didn't get around to tell you in person. First of all, the bus ride that I thought was gonna be killer actually was not that bad. The bus became home, sadly. Amy slept....the whole trip. Except on the way through the Appalachians, where we talked about music for the 2 hr trip. The way up seemed aeons longer.
We got stuck in Houston for at least 6 hours. The bus wouldn't shift gears or go above 40 mph. So we tried to drive to Beaumont, but turned back because it would've ended up taking 2 hrs+ to get there. Then we got stopped by a cop who was looking for a hispanic male wearing a green shirt with a yellow stripe. When he got on the bus, he looked shocked...everyone was Hispanic. Heh.
Then we had to switch drivers in Alabama. Mr. Ewing goes, "There's a pole right there." The driver slams smack dab into the pole. It *was* visible. I don't know how he couldn't see that. The bumper fell off, too. Right after we screamed for our lives we were laughing uncontrollably. We stared death (in the form of a pole) in the eye....V_V
There were so many truck stops. They had places where you could take a shower. I thought that was kinda weird, but if truckign was your job, then I can understand the need to take a shower on the road. For some reason, whenever we stop for gas, Flinch would insist that everyone get off the bus. He woke us up at 4 am in the morning because we needed gas! Insane. The bus was freezing, and I started to catch a cold on the way up.
Right now, I'm in Austin at MITE (Minority Intro To Engineering) for the week. I should be working on a model rocket "proposal", but I have so much free time I can update. That PS is from my counselor Chris Innocent, who caught me...V_V
P.S.
Ya! YA....

So...Episode III came out. But I hadn't even seen the original trilogy. For shame, or so all my SW fanatical friends tell me. Rod lent me the trilogy, and I really like it. Its so much better than the prequels. Return of the Jedi wouldn't work though! So I can't finish it.
Also, I can't wait for Harry Potter 7. ....I'm weird.

I was so happy yesterday! I got my letter from UT about this engineering program. They only accepted a 100 people from across Texas, so I'm proud. I honestly thought that I wasn't going to be accepted....so now I'm kinda worried. I don't know how to draft, and I'm doubting my mathematical skills. What if I go over there and ruin my career?! gonk ::Sigh:: It was even on the list (for stuff we had to bring) that we needed positive attitudes. I'm ecstatic, but at the same time scared as hell.
