I forgot that Gaia provided a blog. Haven't touched this in 11 years!

Just killing time during the Halloween event. Collecting candies and the same old crap.

It's a pity so many folks including the guy who put me onto Gaia back in '03 have vanished. Oh, well.

I spent part of my two week downtime this year cleaning everything out of my home office space (a spare bedroom no longer needed for family) and proceeded to tear out the carpet and paint the walls. This has been the first coats of paint the room has seen in 25 years, so the drywall took two full coats of primer to look respectable.

Painting can be fun. Even therapeutic. It makes the space feel a bit lighter. Even the new shade of white has brightened the space with the same amount of wattage in the light bulbs.

With the new area rug in place and the furniture replaced, the office is ready for my return later in the month.

I'll be in San Diego starting Tuesday night. The drive to Comic-Con will be a simple push in the early evening hours. I'm planning on about 8 hours, but will most likely pull into Escondido for the first night. From there, it's a forty minute drive down I 15 to the Town and Country. I'm not looking forward to the trolly system again. But their prices are hard to beat during the con and tennis season.

Or how I stopped worrying and bought a new laptop.

Today I had to take a meeting with one of my biggest clients. I was concerned that this would be one of those meetings where I would have to hear the 'kiss of death' speech; that they would not need my services any longer. Instead, I was received warmly and handed a hefty $2000 year end bonus check that I was not expecting!

A fever of sorts came over me after I got in my car and aimed it to the credit union. An arguement I had been having with myself for months now over when I should s**t or get off the pot about buying a replacement for my aging G3 iBook. My plan was to hold out for at least one more speed bump of the MacBook Pro line then pounce on an end-of-life model.

Then it hit me. About the best I would hope to save would be around $400 plus my user group discount. That end-of-life discount is a lot of money, to be sure. But with a cashed bonus check and a few hundred dollars out of my own savings, a 15" MacBook Pro was well within reason. After all, I'm selling the G3 iBook for a solid return. And the gained productivity is well worth the investment!

And the new glossy screen is to die for! Such a nice change for my field work. So lush and deep. Several folks who saw me out with it tonight were green with envy!

All in all, this is one of the finest Christmas bonuses I've ever treated myself to.

I just now found out that a fat turd named Scott Kurtz won a sympathy Eisner award for his weak kneed PvP webcomic.

Excuse me while I throw up some more! burning_eyes

And to add insult to injury, the lard bucket is now a GoA at the '07 San Diego ComicCon!?!
