It has been a very long time since I have felt that child-like security, like a blanket fort in the winter months, like the shroud of confidence you carry as you sit on the back grate of a pickup truck going down a bumpy dirt road. You'll never fall. You'll never be cold. You will never be hurt.
It has been quite some time since I believed that, and even longer since it was true.
