As the sun rose the fragile shell of a naïve snake
Began to quiver and shake
And up from the egg, the snake awoke
The world was fearful and simply brand new
The snake wove himself through the lustrous vines
As he eased through the thicket he felt pain
Deep within his slender stomach it ached
He now knew the sensation of hunger
Now he swung among the trees and lay still
Days past in lengthy consistency
Until one night when all seemed to be lying still
The young snake now starving for nourishment
Clenched a small rat in its innocent fangs
As he consumed the rat, his stomach seemed to heal
Though now he no longer cringed as before
The snake desired more of this nourishment
As the days past, his addiction worsened
He consumed all that passed his lengthy path
Hiding beneath the innocent coverings of flowers in brush
The snake awaited his prey that fell for his deception
Soon he grew large and strong and remained superior to the rest
His once crystal fangs were now stained with an irreversible fatality
He craved this malicious entrapment of helpless prey
And so he placed himself above the rest
Feared by all, he need not worry about ever one day becoming prey
With a crisp crescent in the lifeless sky
A beast approached with rays of sun and death across his back
The snake lay unaware among the brush
He was now so obese that his movement was scarce
And as the tiger came upon him he dared not flee
With pride soaring and fear nonexistent
The snake faced the tiger with glee striking eyes
Never before had he seen such hate and despise
The tiger was tall and stronger than he
And in one fierce strike proved all he could be
Now demolished and pierced in the sides
The cunning snake shook in demise
Never again would he face the world
For his eyes stay shut and his breath was no more
Obsession with hunger and his pride in the way
The snake, now a sloth, threw his life away..
Began to quiver and shake
