A Rotting Eden
300 years after the Apocalypse came and went, the survivors join wandering gangs called Tribes in a bid for survival in a world without nations. This is the story of one man's struggle in one of the last remaining cities on Earth.
Aramis wanted to get married.
Or, at least, that's what he'd belived he wanted for quite some time now. Since Azrael was born Aramis had been concerned with how people would look at him, knowing he was a b*****d child born out of wedlock. As a child of unrecognized union himself, he had strong feelings towards marriage and knew how differently a child could be treated when it was know that his or her parents were married. Upon finding out Honnete was pregnant, he'd pressed her for marriage, and the same with Schmerz even before Azrael was born. As it stood now, however, he had two children with two different people and to marry one and not the other would do a great injustice to the child whose parent he was not married. He could not possibly imagine one of his children being recognized by the church and the community while the other was shunned as a b*****d.

On the one hand, he could opt to marry both parents of his children and be labeled a polygamist, which he was not, and which would cast a stain on both his children. On the other hand, he could marry neither and have them declared bastards by his church, which was just as bad as being a polygamist. Aramis had no desire for a third party in a marriage at all; he figured one significant other was enough work and a second to provide and care for would drive him mad. Still, something had to be done.

He'd wanted to marry Schmerz for years now. But the more he thought about it, the more unjust it seemed to Adrianna. For all intents and purposes, she was born first, and marrying Schmerz would be like giving preferrential treatment to Azrael, and he loved them both just the same. He was confused, torn between parental instinct to protect both his children and the desire to have them treated exactly the same way. But if he married one parent and not the other, the children would forever question his decision and quite possibly grow to resent him. He didn't know what to do.

Where in the hell was Altana when you needed an answer to questions like these?
