First we will learn "Good Morning".
Good morning is traditionally おはよう御座います。 (Ohayo gozaimasu.). Ohayo is a word that can means early. Gozaimasu means it is but is a very polite way of saying so. What your basically saying is...
"My! You're up early, good friend."
Variations of this word include:
おはよう!- Ohayo!
お~は~!- O~ha~! (Created and made famous by Ohasuta - Ohayo Studio, a children's morning news program.)
---
Next is "Good Afternoon".
Good afternoon is こんにちは。(Konnichi wa.). Konnichi is an old-fashion way of saying today. Wa is a variant way of pronouncing ha which means "how is...?" is question form. Which means you are saying something like this...
"Greetings, good friend, how are you fairing this fine afternoon?"
Variations of word include:
オッス!- Osu! (Used often. Very casual greeting.)
よっ!- Yo! (Same as above.)
ちゃおっす!- Chaosu! (Ok...this is from one of my favorite manga Reborn!. So It's not actually real...)
---
Finally "Good Evening".
Good Evening is こんばんは。(Konban wa.). This is very simple to explain. As explained above, this is yet another "How do you do?" sort of phrases. Konban means tonight. So the phrase can be translated as followed...(Since it's kind of boring to type the same sentance again, I'll use a different personality for this one.)
"Hey, dude! How'ya doing tonight?"
The variations of these words are the same as "Good Afternoon".
