Today we went to see the Basho Museum haiku update
The car ride is long together we read books and guides on Basho
Wandering poet, in the 1600s Basho wrote haiku
Now we too wander Basho trecked for months; I think six hours seems long
At the gas station "Mantanni, onigaii, ne?" * They wipe the windows
*fill up the tank
We park in the lot before the museum; in the handicapped spot.
a statue stands of Basho and a follower we take some pictures
Elegant in ink Caligraphy poems on walls what do they all say?
Armor in cases She stops to pose again our cameras click
Steve asks another man at the museum for directions to lunch
On to lunch we walk through bamboo, maple and stone peaceful wooded path
Maple all around it will be lovely in fall when the colors change
Onigiri and little bowls of soup and veg lunch is delicious
Green tea in sunlight We drink it, greatfully, from Pottery dishes
My camera dies Alas, no temple pictures Leah will take some
Basho once walked here he wrote, prayed at this temple six hundred years old
Return to the van a second museum now for a Print artist
Hiroshigi Blue they call him; he did the wave very famous print
blues and reds; amazing on paper so fragile, old beautiful contrasts
Omiyage* shop! We all buy cards and posters color for our walls
Otawara now? But Steve, we had plans at four I guess we will be late
Moss covered stone walls we weave through them in green hills Is Steve lost again?
"Those didn't sound like- good sounds for the van." she says Will we make it home?
Back at the lot, we say goodbyes, with hugs and waves adventure ended
