It couldn't say whether or not it had indeed killed them... only that it could have. but this was a common stated fact, so it was no help whatsoever to the investigation.
The detective on the case was stressed and unhappy.
“What do you mean not THERE!? You told me the suspect was in his prison cell FIVE MINUTES AGO!"
This was bad news, if the caterpillar had escaped, many life’s would be lost to it's fury.
"But detective sir...I…"
"DAMIT JHONES!! IF IT GETS LOOS THE WHOLE WORLD IS IN PARRELL!!!"
Slamming the phone down an picking it back up again, detective Conner yelled once more into he receiver
"SEND ME THE MEMO AND GET OFFICER DANNY IN HERE!"
Enter Officer Danny:
"Sir did you want the 'pink floral' or the 'royal blue boy'? The new chairs don't come in ' pink salmon'..."
Looking at him with a face that obviously said" what-the-hell-are-you-talking-about?"

"Danny...."
"Yes sir?"
“ARE YOU ******** INSANE?! ’PINK FLORAL'? THAT WOULD SO CLASH WITH MY OUTFIT! gonk “
Slamming the door in Danny's face Conner then sat down thinking about caterpillars.

Elsewhere:

RRWAAGGHHH!!!! domokun (This would be the mighty caterpillar’s super magical mating call)
AAAHHHH!!!!!! gonk (This would be the many officers who were sitting in t he wrong place at the wrong time)
RRWAAGGHHH!!!! domokun (This would be the mighty female caterpillars reply translated as this: ******** OFF.)
Back at the office of detective Conner:
"it's time... bring it on you crazy a*****e caterpillars!"
"sir? Your limo is here."
"let’s go!"
leaving his office with much gusto, Conner knocked into his secretary whom he knew had a potted plant stashed away.
And so...nearing the end of this wonderful tail…the detective went to the caterpillar lair and fought not with weapons but with his almighty VOICE!

"YOU LOSERS CATAPILLERS! YOU THINK YOURE SO COOL? I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE!! YOUR JUST FLIMSY BUTTERFLIES!!
RRAAAHHHGGG!!!!(Translated: shut up puny human…you know nothing of or nation.)

And the caterpillar exploded.
