Here's to the end of the year of our lord 2004.
I'm sitting here reflecting on the end hours while listening to hours of music that invokes the better memories and drowns out the failures.
Sitting here, listening to a live performance by Brian Wilson and his new band performing his lost masterwork from the mid 1960s, I smile. In this moment, I see the tide turning as it did in those turbulent days. I remember the fights for civil rights and against the ignorance of the leaders who forgot God's commandment: Thou shall not kill.
While this year marked a shameful resurgence of hypocrisy and ignorance, the tide for that moment has peaked and is rolling back to sea. Bush's third world war is already lost. His ignorance of history will condemn future generations to suffer, but his mind is so small as to reject thoughts so lofty as those of peace.
Sacrifice is a term that few consider until they have to face the price paid in that act. If we have sacrificed the blood and soul of our greatness for Bush's ego and sin, then no price will ever be sufficient to repay the damage caused by his supporters. May their stay in Hell be as painful as that which they visited upon us in life.
Happy New Year everyone. May the tide rapidly carry away the deadwood, flotsam and jetsam that has fallen this year.
