So, anyone keeping up with Zach McClure's journal knows that there's a chance he might get dropped frm Basic Traning becase of illness. Now, I haven't espressed this anywhere ele but my own ead, but, ell...what happens next? If he does get dropped, that is. Does he go back to college? Does he try to get into the Air Force instead of the Marine Corps? And me...do I stop wearing the EGA around my neck because he's no longer a Marine recruit, nor will he be again? And what do I do with the Marine GI Joe I got him for Christmas if he does get droped? I never thought I'd have to think about all of this, because really, the idea of Zach, the strongest person I know, not making it for something physical seemed....ludicris, at best. This whole concept never even occured to me. Even when he first announced his extended stay in the Medical Recouperation Platoon, I never considered the possibility of him getting dropped. Where would our lives go? What sort of mental healing would I have to provide for him? Would we still get married in November, or sooner? Would I be able to talk to him about this, or even as close as we are, would he close himself up about this topic. Lord help me...and help him stay in Basic Training.
