“So you finally got out of bed,” Candice said, not looking up from stirring her tea, the spoon clinking against the edges of the cup.
“It’s Saturday, why would I need to get up? And it’s only 2, chill out already.”
The spoon came to a halt, and the dark haired girl finally looked up regard her roommate, fighting to keep her expression from turning to a death glare. Bailey was standing at the base of the stairs leading in towards the kitchen, dirty bowl in her hand and its paired spoon hanging from her mouth. Last night she had taken the bowl of ice cream up with her to bed, but instead of returning afterwards she had let it rot in her room overnight, a state, Candice thought, that wasn’t far removed from Bailey herself.
Her half slashed pajama top hung limply off her shoulder, a lurid green bra strap being shown to the world; unpleasant, but still better than the alternative of no strap being seen. The pajama bottoms were equally unkempt, splashed with a star pattern and barely hanging onto the edge of her hips, and Candice couldn’t keep her nose from wrinkling when she noticed the line on the front that designated the short’s original purpose as boxers. Hair was a complete disaster, brown chunks sticking every which way and ratted enough to deserve an attack with the scissors if it hadn’t already been cut short. Why did her roommate have to dress like this?
“What’s a matter Candy? Sit wrong on the pipe stuck up your a**?” Bailey said with a grin, and in that moment Candice realized she had let her expression slip. She quickly smoothed out her face one more, but not before giving a grimace at the spoon being held between Bailey’s teeth. “I simply wish you would give more care to your hygiene. And it’s Candice, Bailey.”
The brown haired girl gave a shrug. “Not dead yet and I feel fine, so I think I’m okay for now.” Bare feet padding over the wood floor she walked over the sink and set the bowl inside, but the spoon remained in her mouth. The reason why was revealed a few moments later as she opened one of the cabinets, took out a jar of peanut butter, opened in up, and then without any cleaning in the sink what so ever took the spoon straight from her mouth and into the peanut butter, scooping out a sizable dollop.
Candice shrieked, her tea spoon clattering onto the table as it was forgotten. Bailey only watched in amusement as the other girl rushed over, snatching the peanut butter jar from her hand and opening the silver ware drawer with a bang as the silverware crashed together, grabbing the first spoon she saw. She then proceeded to frantically scrape off the top layer of peanut butter in the jar, and Bailey had to clutch her side from barely suppressed laughter, almost loosing it completely when she heard a soft but distinct “Ew!”
“You really,” Bailey said between gasps, “are a hoot!”
“And you,” Candice said with a glare as she rinsed the peanut butter off the spoon, “are disgusting.”
“Hypochondriac.”
“Slob.”
Bailey just gave a jaunty wave as she climbed back up the stairs to her room, licking away at the peanut butter on her spoon with a self satisfied smile.
Candice sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose and sinking back down into her seat at the table. This was going to be a long, long month....
