Hello and Goodbye...
For a week at my school, from the 18th the the 23rd of March, we had students from Yamata Nishi Highschool come stay with us for a week. I was suppose to host, but at the last minute, my mother got sick, rendering us useless and making my students house with someone else. My students name was Shuhei Morohoshi, he told me to call him Moro.
He housed with my friend Christine, and 2 other students. The first 2 days I was unable to enjoy their company due to not being in school, still my mother was hospitalized. When Wednesday rolled around, I debated and haggled with going to school, but alas I went, and I finally met Shuehei and the rest of the students, I felt excited and I hugged everyone, and told them how happy I was to see all of them.
They all knew what happened, even their Sensei's, I felt a very strong love from people that were complete strangers, and half way across the globe. They came here to visit us, and thats all that it took to make me feel happy.
That day a trip was planned and I went with them, I had an amazing time with them, exchanging different snacks, jokes, fun, and teaching them as they did us about culture. The day seemed like it flew past almost, and i still remember it vividly in my mind.
Thursday came and we had a parting dinner of sorts, we played games, laughed and learned much more about them. They taught us Hiragana, one of the 3 Japanese characters. We wrote our names and joked as we ate and watched the presentations they gave us. Group by group, or even solo, they showed us new things and games to play. We tried real green tea as they drink, and it was so good, although some of my classmates thought otherwise.
Friday, today came and the room filled slowly as everyone came in with smiled with light spirits, unable to see the fate that would await us as the time grew short. Slowly but surely we all sprang to tears, well most of us, as the boys from Yamata tried not to. But happily, Itsuki, one of the most adorable ones there, gave way to tears and many hugs. Yusuke, his friend taunted him as he did, he seemed a little mischievous, I knew it. Slowly we ranged for the bus, and me and my friends made a human wall in front on the door, preventing them from getting on the bus. We prolonged them for a while till finally, the female teacher, with tears in her eyes had to drag them away from our sides, it was cute and we laughed and we pulled them back, as they grabbed and clung to our wrists.
They all boarded onto the bus, and we cried horribly as it pulled off slowly. Back in the classroom, we talked and joked about it, and cried our last tears, or so I thought. My friend Christine gave me her phone, and to my amazement, a video, of Shuhei. He was playing the guitar, and it sounded so beautiful, instantly, I cried like a baby, slumped over the phone in my hand. My eyes poured like rain, and I felt a hole of emptiness in my chest. I was gonna miss them terribly, oh so much. I made friends in all of them so quickly, especially Nozomi, the sweetest of them all. Her host however was just so terrible. She did nothing for her, didn't take her anywhere, and isolated her from the group.
However, the rest of the hosts wouldn't accept that, especially the mothers that were there. we showered her in hugs and we became her hosts. We gave her presents and she smiled and laughed with the others for the first time since she has been here in America.
Even though I was only able to be there for 3 days, I was happy with what i was given. Aki, another student, was so pretty, she gave me a tiny present of "Dagashi", or snacks when we first met. they were so good, and to my surprise so was the strawberry one, as I don't like them.
I had so much fun with all of them, and if you guys are reading this, I wanted to thank you so much for everything, and I cant wait to see you all again someday! I'll never forget the precious time we spent, and I hope we can do this again sometime!
Thank you, Thank you so much! From me and all of my classmates from Fredrick Douglass Highschool!
