What is Takeo doing outside my window so late at night? Is he trying to play a trick on me? I jump off my futon and land silently on the floor. Creeping slowly on my hands and feet, I sit beneath my window and listen closely.
"Now try to be quiet so we can get out of here without being caught," I heard my ani say. Who is he talking to? "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I got nervous. Here, I brought you one of my jackets so no one will recognize you," I hear another familiar voice say. That's Shin's voice. What are those two up to? I wait until the whispering stops to stand up and watch their shadows race away in the night. I squint and see them shimmy up the wall protecting our shinden-zukuri, only to disappear over the other side of it.
