This poem is called "Black Belt Testing." I wrote it after my friend's black belt testing, for Tae kwon do. Although I am not sure I got all the details right, I'm posting it anyway.

I sit there in my chair watching you test.
I take pictures when I can.
I am awed by your performance.
You hurt yourself breaking you boards and bricks.
I ask you silently if you are alright.
You nod at me and gesture "Don't worry about it."
I can't not worry about it though because I care about you.
I have a feeling you're hiding your pain, but I leave it be.
I don't want to be in your face like that.
I watch the rest of your testing, trying not to show concern, just amazement.
I watch you spar your opponent.
She goes wild and hits you in the ear.
You look surprised at her and attack back.
When time is up, you laugh and shake her hand.
I don't get the change to ask if your okay, your opponent takes it.
After testing, I congragulate you many times, follow you around and try to get more pictures.
You dodge my camera, but pose for your sister with your friends.
I take this the oppertunity and take the picture.
I have this picture hanging up near my bed in a gold-colored frame.
I can't wait for my own black belt testing so that our roles in this poem are reversed.
You watching me test as I watched you test.
I will do my best for you, because I care about you.
