Children will be children
and teens will be teens
adults will be adults
but what else can be said
Make a smart remark about how much we think we know
wallow in self pity
so much more you have to grow
cry your heart out one day
and smile and laugh the next
say you hate them deeply
but love them nonetheless
our minds have much to grow
and our hearts much to understand
be angry be sad be lost in this thread
laugh and be happy and smile all the same
the children our friends
our mothers and fathers
the neighbors the strangers
all in the same name that is human
it won't last forever the pain of one day
and the smiles of the next
can't tell you though how to live it
fondle life at your will
wollow in your pain
or bathe in the sunlight
but remember the saying we won't live forever
