My bare feet feel the damp cool earth beneath them.
My body follows robotically
To where my soul desperately pulls me.

A cliff?
A cliff is where I choose to be?
I can see the deadly drop ahead of me,
And I still walk forward.

I stop
As I reach the brink of this cliff.
Curious, I look down,
To see how far I could...
Would
Fall.

'Quite a ways'
I think to myself.
Hell,
I can't even see the bottom,
Or imagine how painful it would be
To hit it.

My feet inch forward,
And I welcome the adrenaline
That pulses through my veins
As I feel small pebbles
Slide to the edge under my weight.

I know it now,
I can feel it with my entire being,
I'm going to fall.
This weak earth will give eventually,
It will slide out from under me,
And I will fall with it.

And then there is a change.
I can sense you,
Even with my eyes closed,
Even though you’re behind me,
I know you're there.

So what will you do?
Will you grab my shoulder and pull me back,
Refusing to let me suffer that fate?...
Or will you run,
Grab my hand,
And jump,
Holding me as we both fall?...
Or will you simply join me on this edge?
Stand still and wait,
Let's see if we slide off
And fall all the way...
