The Weekly Rant CI -New Disney
Jesus H. Christ, I never thought I'd see a borderline nazi's empire being torn down and not think "hallelujuah!" Walt Disney used to make animated films, (among other things) today known as "disney classics." They were tales of heroism, adventure, and often musical numbers for some reason. You've probobly seen a few; Aladdin, Pinnochio, (sp?) Jungle book, Notre Dame, Sleeping Beauty, Little mermaid, Nightmare before Christmas, Mulan, etc. There were a bunch even not counting the sequals.

Anyway, feel free to look up any of the films on youtube to see what I mean, they were often about a well-meaning hero taking on a power-hungry villian, saving a princess, and finishing up with a happy ending. That was a pretty good formula, I think, but somewhere along the no longer drawn nor animated line, (around Mulan, actually) the trend of making good films died horribly, replaced by s#^&@y teen dramas in which completely interchangeable actors go through mostly interchangeable settings against villains (if any) who don't even want to rule the f@$^ing world anymore. In Highschool musical, the bad guy (girl in this case) not only befriends the good guys in the end, but her motivation was to be in a f$^&ing play. WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT THIS?!

Beyond belief, HSM is remarkably goddamn popular. We went from heroes saving the world to whiny teenagers with insignifigant problems? WTF, something has gone wrong somewhere. There is, amazingly, a ray of hope here. Disney channel, the apparent root of the problem, features a cartoon called phineas and ferb. It's supposedly about 2 kids inventing stuff in their backyard, but it's GOOD. There's even a psychotic villain who flips around "rule the local city," "fix today's most irritating problem," and "just be an a$@^&*e" as his daily objective. The hero of the story is a platypus. It's hilarious AND sticks by damn near everything disney classics were about. See the correlation? Disney is good at animation! Voice acting and fantasy were the way to go. Alas, they've gone the way of Nintendo by abandoning their old audience in favor of people who happened to be throwing more money at the time. (esoteric refference)

BOTTOM LINE: I may just be out of the times here, but things were better at that blue and white castle thing when cartoon people were battling out the fate of the world. (doesn't that even sound a helluva lot better?)

That's this week's rant, I'm Ominous Jester, Goodnight.
