The Epicness That Is Monster Hunter |

This entry is just for a temporary vent of just how awesome the Monster Hunter series of games is. I am currently venting over Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for the PSP.
For those of you who don't know, Monster Hunter is an RPG. Unlike most RPGs, though (I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy), it holds many "staples" of the genre to the wall at knifepoint: 1.) It is not turn based in any way, all action is completely real time. 2.) Your custom character does not level up in any way, only his/her weapons and equipment do. 3.) Any weapon (of the 11 classes; 8 in the Blademaster subset, 3 in the Gunner subset), can kill any monster. It all depends on your play style and skill, as each weapon is different. This brings me to... 4.) If you die, it's most likely your own fault (only a few exceptions). Another strategy is needed, maybe a different weapon. It's trial and error sometimes.
Anyway, I digress...The game is fun. Like, extermely balls-to-the-wall, dear-god-I-can't-stop, why-is-that-cat-talking-and-cooking-food-for-me fun. Yes, there are cats. They walk on two legs. They talk. They cook. They fight alongside you. Your pet is a piggie, which you can dress in an array of cute sweaters. This game does not take itself seriously, which is great.
This may turn some gamers off, but there is very little storyline in the game (much like a MMORPG). There doesn't need to be, though - the goal of the game is to kill a creature, take its materials to make better weapons and armor, then go kill a more powerful creature, and repeat. Simple. Most battles are fought with large creatures such as wyverns, dragons, apes, and giant crabs, which can be dealt with in many ways.
Weapons range from greatswords to dualswords to lances, and etc. (all of which can cut tails off, as they are bladed weapons), hammers (which can crush shells and such), light and heavy bowguns (think machine guns and cannons, respectively), and bows (bow and arrow). Each weapon acts differently, so you can find out what is best suited for you.
On top of that, this game is addictive. it's easy to clock in over 300 hours on this game, due to the sheer number of quests and items to get. Even when you are being beaten down left and right. For everyone addicted to WoW, you guys are playing Monster Hunter Lite. There, I said it. What now? You will love this game, and you will hate it so much that you wish to throw your PSP at the wall, but you will always come back to it.
Okay. *sigh* All of that is off my chest. If anyone who reads this journal entry is interested in the world of Monster Hunter, PM me.
Until then, bye-bye peoples. mrgreen
