The water flowed at her feet
She wants to cry, tears don't come
Eyes are dry as she stares into
The distance
Heart is heavy, she laughs weakly
Reaching out, she grasps air
Looking down, she sees the mask
The happy face she wears over her own
She wanted to hurt them
Them, who laughed at her
Them, who pretend to know her
She reaches down, cups the mask
In her hands
Staring at it, her eyes filled
She let it trickle away
Crying freely, she stares down
At her face under the mask
Then, a voice calls to her
And the mask comes back.

I moved so many times, and have been to many schools. Each time I moved, I placed another layer on my mask. Whenever I tried to be rid of it, it would come back, and I would hide behind it to escape the depression in my heart. I don't think I can truely be rid of it, for I want to hide behind the mask again.
