The Game
The Game, the ultimate form of entertainment, the ultimate form of control, like the Roman Empire before it the Empire of Man is ruled by the mob. The Empire of Man an empire spanning hundreds of worlds and hundreds of star systems. Ruled by an elected Senate lead by and elected Emperor, but such positions are tenuous at best. The wrong word in the wrong place and the people rise up to cast down these petty rulers, sending them from the height of glory and power to the depths of poverty and squalor. Control the mob, control the empire.
It had been the idea of simple Planetary Baron originally. A game show to keep people distracted and entertained. Put several people in an arena and have them fight till there was only one standing. The fights and been non lethal originally, with the winner receiving incredible prizes. The Planetary Baron had been popular and was eventually voted to the Senate.
With his rise in power the now Imperial Senator needed even more popularity to secure his status. So The Game became even grander. Spread across an entire city, the contestants were given access to more advanced weapons. The Game soon became the most popular form of entertainment in the Empire, spawning a legion of copies and spinoffs. Then the Senator became the Imperial Emperor and The Game reached its ultimate incarnation.
The planet Zeldren, whose entire population had either been eliminated or forcibly relocated after a rebellion, was, renamed The Coliseum in honor of the ancient Roman coliseum. The entire planet became the new setting for The Game and ‘contestants’ were given access to nearly any weapon they desired and the restrictions on killing were lifted. Worst of all it was no longer a contest to see who the last man standing is, but a contest of survival. These days most of the ‘contestants’ are the worst of the worst imperial prisoners. People already sentenced to death. The rest are either individuals seeking the glory of surviving The Game or people who have provoked the Emperor enough that he had them sentenced to The Game.
To ensure a constant flow of battle each ‘contestant’ has a small bomb implanted in their chest. Anyone who doesn’t fight for three days is killed in a bloody explosion. Likewise any attempts at tampering with the bomb will cause its detonation. They only way to escape The Game is to rack up enough points to ‘buy’ your freedom and the only way to gain points is to kill. To this end many people work in groups, guarding each others backs and ensuring their mutual survival. In many cases this has lead to many of the bloodiest battles in The Game. For when you kill someone you gain their points and the longer a person survives, the more points they rack up, the more points they become worth. Some people team up specifically with this in mind, intending to betray they’re teammates when they’ve racked up a certain number of points.
Freedom isn’t the only thing that can be bought however. Nearly anything a person could want is available for purchase on the Coliseum market from weapons, ammo, and vehicles, to food, survival gear, and cybernetic replacements and upgrades. Of course none of this comes cheaply, everything on the market costs points. And while every point spent puts you one step farther from freedom, it is often necessary to purchase new equipment and weapons. As the gear ‘contestants’ are given to start tends to be relatively weak by comparison to gear used by ‘contestants’ that have been on The Coliseum for a while.
All of this is broadcast twenty-four seven on thousands of channels. Each dedicated to a different specific aspect of The Game. There’s the urban combat channel, the oceanic combat channel, the sewer combat channel, the vehicular combat channel, there are even channels that follow the more popular ‘contestants’ exclusively. All of these images are broadcast by swarms of micro-cameras. These tiny cameras are no bigger than a gnat and shaped in hundreds of forms so they can continue broadcasting their images no matter what the combat conditions.
You already know all this though don’t you, ‘contestant.’ So let me just say. Welcome to The Coliseum.

Rules
1. You don’t need my permission to kill each other. I’m going to assume for the sake of argument that if two characters get in a fight, the players can work out how it’ll end. Be it mutual destruction, running away like pansies, one killing the other, or one letting the other live. I don’t care. Just have good RP reasons for whatever you do, because if I see people letting other’s get away because ‘killing another persons character is mean’ I’ll kill them both.
2. If you die, don’t whine about it. Just make another character. When you make a new character you get to ‘spend’ the points your old character had to buy the new one gear. Also this new character starts with twenty points less than the old one. Obviously this new character will have been on the planet for a while.
3. There will be no mass killing of npcs. This would just plain make the game to easy. As such you will not actually get points for killing npcs. Instead I will grant points at my discretion.
4. You gain all the points another player’s character had if you kill them.
5. Improvised weapons and traps are encouraged. Just remember that these are improvisations and in most cases are probably only good for one or two uses before they break. I don’t want to see people carrying around the same make shift crossbow for a month. And unless your person is an engineer or something they probably won’t work to well most of the time.
6. Looting is also encouraged. Just be reasonable about it. If you kill a guy with your hand gun and then find he had a mini-gun on him, I want to know why he didn’t mow you down with it.
7. Remember there’s a bomb in you chest. I will use it.
8. PM all profiles to me With the title Newest ‘contestant.’
9. I expect you to die. If I see people surviving when they shouldn’t I will turn their chests into an open cavity.
10. Romance is alright. Just because your probably a homicidal convict doesn’t mean you don’t deserve love too. Also it makes a great way to get people off their guard.
11. Blood, guts, and gore, oh my! This is going to be excessively bloody, but I’m sure there’s something somewhere in the TOS about not getting too graphic. (I wouldn’t know for sure, I haven’t read it. >> )
12. Foul language is ok too. Just don’t go overboard.
13. If you have questions ask them! Don’t just assume if you’re not sure. It could lead to your chest being vacated

In addition to a free neural-net computer, you know that thing that was implanted into your brain at birth that let’s you access the Gal-Net, for those that don’t already have one. Each ‘contestant’ is given 70 points and full access to The Coliseum market as soon as they’re registration is complete. Some of the items available on the market are:
Ballistic Weapons:
Basic handguns (your basic small arms - 5 points
Basic full auto handguns (Pull the trigger and watch it go)– 6 points
Pulse handguns (It shoots energy!)– 10 points
Basic laser gun (shoots a continues beam. Not very powerful) – 10 points
Basic rifles (Your ak-47s and such) – 10 points
Basic rifle with attached grenade launcher (Still your ak-47s….I guess ) – 13points
Basic pulse rifles (the energy variant) – 15 points
Basic pulse rifles with attached grenade launcher (Now your ak-47 really kicks a**) -18 points
Basic shotguns (Pull!) – 10 points
Basic shotguns with attached grenade launcher (Now that’s just silly) – 20 points
Basic sniper rifles (I see you) – 15 points
Basic Pulse sniper rifles (This is gonna hurt) -18
Grenade launcher (Because attached grenade launchers are only good for frag nades) – 15 points
Mini-gun (Just call me Rambo) – 20 points
Rocket launchers (badda boom) – 20 points
Defensive items:
Basic shield belts (Projects a shield around the wearer, great against energy weapons. Solar recharger for infinite battery life. Only good for a few hits) – 10 points
Basic repulsion belt (slows objects coming at the wearer. Great in melee combat. Little effect on advanced projectiles.) – 10 points
Light armors (Light, flexible, can’t take a lot of hits, but will buy time for running away) – 10 points
Medium armors (A good balance of weight, flexibility and durability.) – 15 points
Heavy armors (Heavy, tough, but inflexible and actually slows the wearer down.) – 20 points
Light power armor (like light armor only it increases the wears strength and agility too.) – 20 points
Melee weapons:
Small bladed weapons (knives, short swords, that kind of thing) – 5 points
Small energy weapons (It’s like a tiny lightsaber) – 10 points
Large bladed weapons (Axes, maces, great swords, you know the stuff) – 10 points
Large energy weapons (Because everyone wants an energy scythe) - 15 points
Absurdly big bladed weapons (Because nothing says you got a big one like a big sword. Only usable by full cybernetics or people in heavy power armor) – 15 points
Absurdly big energy weapons (yes that is a gundam’s beam saber) – 20 points
Cybernetics
(Cybernetic limbs and organs are stronger and more durable than normal ones)
Level one cybernetics (One or two limbs and/or organs have been replace with robotic counterparts) – 10 points
Level two cybernetics (several limbs and/or organs have been replaced with robotic counterparts.) – 15 points
Level three cybernetics (a complete robotic body) – 20 points
Other:
Food and water (It’s recommended to spend a point or two in this as. Otherwise you have to scavenge for it. Each point is worth about a day and a half of food and water. The food is MREs. Other food is available, but costs more.) – 1 point
Flashlights (I’d get the one with a solar recharger) – 1 point
Rope (any length or type you like) – 1 point
Board games (For when you get bored) – 1 point
Sleeping bag (because the ground is cold) – 1 point
Tent (to keep the bugs out) – 1 point
Mess kit (all the pots, plates and silverware you need on a campout in a small easily stored kit) – 1 point
Ammo (Only good for ‘normal’ guns. It’s recommend to spend a few points here as each gun only comes with one ‘clip’) – 1 point
Power cell (For your energy weapons, melee included. Recommended like ammo) – 1 point
Special ammo (Your armor piercing, explosive, and poison rounds to name a few. Only good for ‘normal’ guns) – 1 point
Your freedom - 2,000,000 points
For your convenience heavily armored and shield delivery bots bring any purchased items directly to the purchaser with in a few hours of the purchase. Even if they’re several mile underground. The bots are of course equipped with a highly sensitive detonation device to discourage tampering with them. They tend to take out entire city blocks when they go off. Oddly contestants actually gain points if they can survive destroying one.
For the larger items such as vehicles and the like they are delivered at a specific location given to the purchaser at the time of purchase and delivered by transport ships. While safety is not guaranteed while picking up these items, only the purchaser can activate them. As such many people will actually let a tank sit out in the open for days to make sure the area is clear before moving in to claim it. Of course this leads to people that sit around for days waiting for the owner to claim said tank so they can kill them and take the tank for themselves.
((This is just a list to get you started. I beg you ask for things I didn’t list. I’ll give it a point value. Just remember don’t expect the really good stuff until you’ve racked up some serious points))
