Today was to be Sara's first chance at a real hunt. She left the family's den and she began sniffing up the rock face. A faint scent caught her attention. It was a light musky smell and Sara knew she had caught a mouse's trail. She quickly moved higher eager to catch her prey and make her father proud.

Finally after the long trek, the pup caught a glimpse of the fuzzy critter. She quickly leaped to catch up with it. Sara continued her chase even though the distance between her and home was growing. Then, the mouse quickly dove into a little nest of brush and was gone. The pup sniffed the brush and pawed at it to no avail.

Not ready to give up just yet, Sara sat down at kept post waiting for the mouse to reappear. It had grown dark and was much cooler but there she stayed until the unsuspecting mouse dashed out. Sara was ready and hungry. She quickly pounced on her meal and quickly stopped the mouse, just like her father had showed her.

Sara was one proud pup as she pranced back home with her kill still in her mouth as proof.
