The forest had turned dark and cold during the night and hadn't warmed much since the sun began to slowly rise. Deep in the forest it was difficult to tell what time of day it was, it still felt like night where a certain saigh slept on the forest floor. The saigh began to stur from her slumber. The slightly frightened squirrel that had kept the female company darted quickly behind a log. The dark green female raised her head and peered upwards. She looked dazed and confused about her whereabouts.

The light brown squirrel moved closer to her. The sudden movement scared Botany and she quickly jumped to her feet. She moved too fast for her head to keep up with, her vision spun and her feet collapsed under her. She closed her eyes and waited for the nausea to pass. The cute little furred creature moved in closer and started to sniff the femme's face.

Botany heard the quiet little snuffles and opened her eyes to stare at the tiny woodsland creature. She tried opening her mouth to speak but only a stangled noise came out. She cleared her throat and tried again to no avail. Disappointed she set her chin down on the ground and closed her eyes. The saigh did not notice the squirrel's inquisitory look just before it dashed away. Several minutes passed and Botany opened her eyes to find herself all alone.

Nice, now I'm alone...again, she thought to herself.
She placed her big front paw over her face willing herself to remember how she got here. Her tummy rumbled unexpectedly and that's when it all came back in a flash.

She was chasing a rabbit through the dark forest, it's light fur a prime target in the moon light. Botany's heart was beating fast with adrenaline as she weaved between trees and rocks. The saigh was closing in on her frightened prey, just a few more feet, and then...a rock that was hidden in the forest's natural shadows caught the edge of her back right paw. She tumbled and rolled, hitting the back of her head against the log and then everything turned black...

Botany was still hungry but she still couldn't get up. She sighed and waited. The bushes in front of her began to rustle and move as the tiny little squirrel from before pulled a large bunch of green leaves. He tugged them all the way across the soil and laid them down in front of her. He then sat back with his cute bushy tail raised up, waiting for the female.

Waiting for what? Botany wondered.

But before she could think about it more her stomach rumbled more fiercely this time. The saigh glanced at the cold green leaves then at the warm fuzzy creature just inches away. She sighed and chomped down on the greens. To her surprise they were cool and pleasant tasting. Even her head felt better. She cocked her head at the squirrel and finished the rest of the plant.

Botany had found a new friend and ironically a new menu. (:
