My Gaia: How to Make Friends with Strangers
Gaia Online can be compared to Myspace and Facebook. On these types of sites you can make friends with strangers who have a common interest. These websites can be addictive to people. That’s why my brother Elee calls Gaia “Anime Myspace.” On Gaia, you create an avatar and set up your profile. The games on Gaia consist of chat rooms where you can make friends.
Friendship on Gaia is different from the friendship you have with a person that you see. There are rules and steps you need to understand. The first rule when talking to a stranger is to not give away personal information such as your address or your phone number. The second rule is to type quickly and check your grammar. The third rule is to not be scared or shy. The fourth rule is to not give the impression that you’re a stalker. Note that there are more rules that can be added.
Now that we know some of the rules, let’s pick a game. The games that you can pick from are Fishing, Black Jack, Jigsaw Puzzles and Slots. The game that will help you make friends with strangers is Fishing. Once you connect to the server, choose a room that calls your attention and click “join” or create your own room. Select your fish bait when you enter and then say “hi.” If the user doesn’t respond to you then find another chat room. If you created the room, just wait for a person that responds to enter the chat room. When they respond, ask them what they are doing or how they are feeling. Try to find what their interests are and find a common interest you have with them. An easy way to find out their interest is to go to their profile as opposed to inadvertently bringing up a sensitive topic. This will require a large amount of time, but will start an interesting conversation. Once they ask for your age, or where you’re from, you can pop the question. No, not, “Will you marry me?” but “Will you add me?” However, before asking them, always check their profile to see if they are a decent person. Once you’ve checked, you can finally ask and add them. At this point, you can continue talking to them or you can leave the chat room. Make sure you say “Bye” and exit the chat room properly by saving the game.
You have now spent about two to four hours or even more talking to your new friend. When the next day comes or a few days later, send the newfound friend a private message to greet them, and you can ask them how they are or you can leave a comment on their profile. Don’t do this every day because it will give them the impression that you are a stalker. The benefits of talking to strangers are that you’ll learn how to deal with people and to socialize. You need to remember that you are at risk talking to these people so don’t annoy them. This process can be used repeatedly and can be edited, depending on the situation or website.
