Picking the gender of an eagerly anticipated celebrity ankle-biter is always a good bet for the tabloids, what with those guaranteed 50-50 odds. So it's no surprise Life & Style has decided to stake its claim on the contents of Jamie Lynn Spears' growing belly. "It's a girl for Jamie Lynn!" proclaims the latest cover of the tab, which believes she's due at the very end of June.
"I heard [mother] Lynne talking about Jamie Lynn's baby," alleges a spy. "She said Jamie Lynn and the baby's dad [rumored fiancé Casey Aldridge] were so excited when they found out it's a girl."
Lynne, who is already grandma to Britney's sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 20 months, is also apparently tickled by her teenage offspring's not so original moniker deliberations.
"Lynne said Jamie Lynn made a list of all the girl family names on both sides of the family and is trying to incorporate one of them as the middle name," claims the big-eared mole. "Lynne's flattered to hear her name is being considered."
The swelling starlet, who is purportedly planning to breast-feed ("She's determined to do it!" broadcasts a source), is still trying to lie low, despite the presence of the paparazzi, who tracked her to a Mississippi mall and a Wal-Mart on Tuesday as she shopped with a baby carriage-pushing pal.
"She has been buying tons of clothes," a family insider tells L&S, "and is going to do the nursery in white, black and yellow."
While Jamie Lynn nests, Britney is feeling the burn.
The closely monitored cautionary tale has been seriously focused on her physical health. Earlier this week, shutterbugs trailed her as she made yet another outing to a Los Angeles-area gym.
Their persistence in watching Brit work up a sweat paid off when she emerged from the locker room for a bottle of water wearing only a white towel and a coy smile.
And expect the paps to turn out en masse on Mother's Day. The New York Daily News reports Spears, who has been prepping for her second guest-starring stint on "How I Met Your Mother," will be allowed to spend the day -- under supervision, of course -- with Sean and Jayden.
She's even picked out some new clothes for the tykes, purportedly buying two T-shirts emblazoned with the loaded phrase, Mama's Boy.
