Trials and Tribulations
Hey look! A record! I haven't updated my Journal in over a month. So it's high time I actually write something...anything...^^;

Gaian News

G-LOL stuff is pretty. Mostly from what I've seen on other avatars. Actually viewing all of the items in the stores would result in rebooting of this old computer. sweatdrop It's really quite bad. Once I was in a thread, and I posted a comment. By the time I got back to read the post, after the "Your post has been submitted" part, someone had already quoted me and replied. O__O

Hmm...but now I've figured that was my Internet connection's fault, and not the computer's fault. Granted, this computer is still quite old, but the faster connection I have now makes me very happy. Very happy. whee I had to wait over two months for it, but it's worth it. xp

I even have the ability to go Fishing again. *sigh* heart Not too often, as the computer makes it unbearably slow, and I tend to fall asleep and lose the fish, but it's still nice to see Gaia Fishing 1.5 up for once. xd

But I don't have as much time as I used to for Gaia. My job really drains me of my energy. xd

My Job

I swear, I rarely get sick. I never missed a day of school due to sickness during my university career. (Well, I did miss half of a lab once due to illness, but that's another story altogether, since it was the lab itself that got me sick. O_< wink And that's with all the school stress of assignments, exams and all that jazz. Never once sick in bed. Sniffles here and there, but no flat-out "I can't move and I'm bed-ridden" kind of sickness.

...So I've been bed-ridden sick twice in a month since I started my job. >_< This includes symptoms such as exhaustion, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headaches, chills, and fever. Hoorah! xp

What kind of job do I have? I'm a camp counsellor. crying I spend the weekdays chasing after five year old kids all day, and then I spend the weekend in bed recovering. sweatdrop

I'm guessing it's the combination of stress and germs that the kids pick up that is making me sick. I'm petrified that something bad will happen to my campers, so I end up running around like a chicken with its head cut off. (Unfortunately, indeed, I have envied said headless chicken during my employment. @_o). Thank goodness for my co-workers. sweatdrop

That, and I sometimes skip lunch because I have to help my campers with their lunches. And we have to go swimming every day, even in cold weather. And we have to help the kids do everything. Honestly, I never would have dreamed five year olds were that helpless. I helped babysit my cousin when she was two, and she wasn't that helpless. Then again, maybe my memory is getting as bad as my health. (I'm betting on the latter. confused )

To make a long story short, this is one of the reasons (slow Internet connection being the other main reason) why I am not on Gaia as often as I would like.

And, no, the pay is not worth it. gonk

Entertainment

Sense and Sensibility

The Book
I loved Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, so I thought I'd read Sense and Sensibility this summer. She seems to have a thing for alliteration. xd In any case, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like Pride better, but Sense is still excellent. Close similarities, however. Sisters, husbands, deceit, jilts...and two comparable men with the name "W". O_o

It's not boring at all; it's kind of like a soap opera. Not that I ever watched a soap opera, but there's a lot a drama in it, and memorable characters. Anyway, it is highly recommended if you enjoy English classics. xd

The Movie
I happened to see the 1995 feature film version of Sense and Sensibility this weekend. It's directed by Ang Lee. I knew he had directed this film in the back of my mind, but it never crossed my mind while I was reading the book. It kind of surprised me. This is the guy who also directed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Ice Storm, and Hulk. I'm sure there are others, but that is all I can remember right now. sweatdrop

Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman are all great to watch in this film. Especially Alan Rickman, because I'm always reminded of Professor Snape when I see him. And I'm not even a big Harry Potter fan. xd The movie is very faithful to the book, besides being well done as a movie in its own right. But at least read the book sometime, too. wink

And now for bed. I'm glad it's a long weekend for me, because I still need energy to recuperate. I spent almost twenty straight hours in bed on Friday night. Obviously, I'm almost fully recovered...But I still need an extra day to delay seeing those little monsters again. whee heart

    I've read P&P for GCSE English- love it. Have yet to read S&S, though. ^^;

    All the girls seem to obsess over Colin Firth as Darcy in the BBC adaptation... xd
