In the silence of the twilight, before the breath of dawn, there lingers a single moment, fresh and full of pain. There is nothing but emptiness there as time stands still and you realize that you never had anything anyway. The sand slips through your fingers, never to return, mixing with the blood of wounds ne’er healed from yesteryear, a day long ago. There the land dies, poisoned from the darkness creeping and growing there, and it is unstoppable in its malice, uncaring of what hopes and dreams it shreds. And tears litter the ground, like small crystals, peering into a world unlike any other, unique in every way and yet all the same. Death sweeps in on silent wings, echoing the calls and silent screams of those who have fallen before us, and those that have yet to go. The siren is calling me through the wisps of dreams that seem to bring more comfort and life to me than the world outside, but I am pulled away and the moment passes and I stare into the burning sun that light the dawning sky.
