((Here's a little something I wrote today because I felt emo. XP))

You turn off the phone, still smiling from your conversation with your friend. You open the door to your room, the door you closed so you wouldn't disturb your roommate.

And you hear it. Gasping breath and her voice raised almost into a shriek. She's obviously choking back tears as she lets loose her burdens. This afternoon, last night, this past week. Everything comes crashing from her lips, and all you can do is hold your hand above the doorknob and pray you don't turn it.

You turn away, breath escaping your lungs. It suddenly seems harder to breathe.

The tension breaks as the door opens. She passes by silent as a ghost, her tears the only noise. Her sorrow seems to permeate your soul as you follow her to the couch, a place that used to be a place of comfort. Now it hurts to sit down besider her quaking form; to wrap your arm around her shoulder and try to comfort her. She seems smaller in your arms.

Words come; babel that you seem to understand and then don't make sense all at the same time. There's nothing you can do for her, you realize, as you watch her wipe away her tears.

Her friend, her comfort, comes and takes your place. Feeling awkward you leave, drowning yourself in a song that normally made you feel so full of life. What use does it make when you still hear her quivering voice over the lyrics, the drums, the energetic guitar. Her sorrows pass on to you.
