The fear of loneliness
Is strong within me,
I fear it as I fear death.
But something deep inside
Cries out in desperation
"I want to be alone."

To walk the hills,
To breathe the air,
To sit and listen for
The sounds of nature.
These are reasons why
I want to be alone.

To know that someone cares,
To know that they'll be strong,
Reassures me, comforts me,
And strengthens my resolve.
But still that voice cries out
"I want to be alone."
