what if:
instead of isekai-ing as sophia ascart
ren reincarnates into the hamefura verse as alice d. campbell
stealth d gray man crossover
as in that campbell family
she gets hunter as an older brother (only 1 yr older too!!)
& they're children of neah campbell
& ofc they have an uncle mana e we
so uh... the ren verse pre-reincarnation...
it's an apocalyptic world, where ren ended up the sole survivor
the timeline:
ren gets her fight for her wish at age 8 with her shishou
and he's an oathbreaker & makes her kill him as per usual (he'd never be able to kill her unfortunately.... it's too bad this is always his course of action)
ren spends 1 month coma to heal from injuries
then ren ends up living with hunter & raid & nami
she's pretty broken & spends a lot of time disassociating
then about a year later, there's this virus/pandemic
except people don't get its deadliness & aren't as careful/alert of it as they should be.
over time it mutates
and becomes something of a zombie virus
by the time ren's 10, it resembles that other apocalyptic!ren verse with the human burger establishment
except. here, it gets worse
sometime in the intervening years, hunter goes out to scavenge for food (v low all around, waters poisoned, air polluted, existing plantations not safe for consumption, animals that aren't medium-to-large mammals often carriers of the virus even if not directly affected)
& he gets infected
so he put in a bomb (or something like it) into himself to take out himself & surrounding zombs if he ever gets turned
it's so he wouldn't be a burden / have ren & raid be forced to kill him themselves
let's say ren's like 11 and a half at this point
by the time ren's 12 and a half it's basically just raid & her
they're staked out in a house that's been reinforced & trapped
(unknown if it's their house or if they've always been here)
but there's no food at all,, they're slowly starving to death
even if ren's used to hunger, raid always try to give her at least an equal portion
after raid's death, ren treks across the us over to mini york in hopes that the wall was able to keep the infected out
but turns out that the rich around there didn't like the idea of the poor/unprivileged surviving where they didn't so they bombed a section of the wall down
the hole was too big to plug & just one carrier of the virus getting through was catastrophic to the city
ren eliminates all zombies in that town & plugs the hole up as best as she could (she has mathemagic, so uh a bit more than by hand haha)
in hopes that if she finds other survivors she could send them over
she goes worldwide, even to the poles
she doesn't find anyone
so endgame: ren kills herself for the final time at age 13, when she finds no one else that would need her help
at that point she's convinced she's cursed
the pandemic only happened after aku's death
everyone keeps on dying and leaving her behind
the her who didn't even want to live
and yet she's the one who lived to the end

hamefura side:
the campbells are rich & big name nobles
so they ended up on playdates with the youngest princes and the ascarts as young children quite a bit
as smol children, alan jerald (i'm spelling it like this darnit) and nicol were basically fighting for alice's hand in marriage
alice had great sword fighting capability & ...may have almost cut off jerald's head (he still has a small scar under his chin) & that's how jerald discovered his m side lol
i guess all of them found her fascinating - she's quiet & shy, but.... also a fiend during sword fighting & has an iron will for certain subjects
so while alan & jerald have their sibling competition, nicol swoops in & wins the race!
(jk,, alice reasoned that the princes need an heir & she doesn't want to... but the ascarts don't require such things of their children and ofc neah doesn't either, so nicol it is)
(they're all her precious people, she needs to keep them close else they'll leave her behind)
sophia & hunter have an agreement to get engaged
hunter's aro ace
sophia's les
they're marrying for image in a way (so neither get harrassed)
in this, when jerald gets engaged to katarina, alice scolds him for trying to slip his intentions under kat's nose
jerald ends up having a plain convo with kat about how he doesn't love her like that
and probs wouldn't love her like that in the future
so it's a political marriage and while he does need 1 heir, they're free to pursue their love outside of it
and kat is told this from the start and there's less miscommunication on this issue
so magic-wise:
alice doesn't have any of this world's magic (she doesn't show off mathemagic tho so adults don't actually know about it)
everyone basically considers her magicless
hunter otoh has both light magic & water magic
alice attends the magic academy b/c her brother asks the ministry of this boon
also neah intervened (idk if i should make him a light mage too lol)
so in the acad, when people say light mage campbell, they tend to mean hunter,,
it did take some of the spotlight off maria
i think she was relieved actually
like when she hears people talking about the light mage campbell & it turns out it's someone else??
except people know alice doesn't have magic
& they're aware there's a commoner campbell with light magic also in attendance
so 1st day: they try to bully alice about not really belong to that family & being switched at birth
maria sees it & sees herself from her village in alice
maria intervenes & stands her ground for alice to the bullies
...maria decides she likes the feeling of being this sort of savior
so she ends up accompanying alice, who doesn't really mind, around in case any other jerks appear
to be fair, alice doesn't really care what others think about her magicless status - she knows she was born into the noble campbell family, that's enough for her
the people who made fun of her, they're not her precious people & what they say/think of her doesn't really penetrate/matter
