so ren dated a few guys

aside from that one dream (lol)

the first: kageura masato,, at the time she dated him, was a fellow a rank member
they were both angry kids lol
who couldn't quite deal with their not-quite mindreading;;

and it set the precedent for her next boyfriend choices
sort of
,, boys taller than her, and older than her, and were angry (at something/someone that they couldn't affect, even if they didn't show it externally), but were kind (even just a bit) or at least had some internal moral system that might not match the regular world's. oh, and could read her mind (sort of,, at least just be able to read her)

so fleshing it out:
after masato, it was tegumi, as in pale star aka ando tegumi
so a ren that's 15 yo, dating a tegumi that's 21 yo (see anything wrong with that pic lol)
but mostly the two of them know that they're using each other for an ulterior motive
tegumi needed a cover,, a normal girlfriend that's willing to be his alibi,, or something
someone that has a legal presence (altho idk how much of that ren really had lol)
ren wanted insurance for her wish,, b/c she didn't trust hunter to really manage to let go--

after that it's ... shuuji
i think after the whole yuuma & hyuse thing, shuuji would ... mellow out a bit? with that hate? except he's still angry, but within reason
at that point, ren's sorta sick of being angry b/c it's tiring,, she's so exhausted (the not eating doesn't help) but she doesn't have any other course of action
i think being with shuuji helps her come to terms with that misplaced/impotent anger a bit, and start to think of other ways to (rebel) control things for herself

optional: in between quitting border ( "club" ) and starting college classes, ren dates kaito (kuroba),, the magician
who doesn't appear angry but is quite so at his father's murderers
like,, i think ren's decision to live as a normal girl (more than before at least) stems a bit from this
it's not that she wouldn't have come up with this herself, it's just....
kaito somehow managed to balance his school goof persona with his criminal thief one & be both - have his anger but also his fun and his humor;;
like he didn't completely lose himself in his anger (even if... he sorta did...)
i guess ren took from it, that there's ways to live her life (since she's sorta resigned to it at that point) but like not end the world (what she sees when she tries to scry aku's fortune) or become so exhausted that she gives up

after that it's ren-kun (amamiya ren) who she meets while taking classes,, or rather she meets morgana (a cat that doesn't run away from her!) and feeds him and pets him and looks for him and eventually tracks him down to ren-kun's bag & basically just asks to sit at his cafeteria table & opens some cans of tuna (while nicking her fingers,, so clumsy) for his cat
that's how they meet
and they realize they're in each other's intro to bio class (ren thought there'd be more animals, there's not)

i'll add more things when i think of more things
