She stared out through the
Grime and thick glass
To the street beyond, and the
Dim light spread out from the black
Lamppost in front of the dime store.
She dreamed of the distant past
And not so distant future.
Sighing at her lost love
And her vow to fight.
She had answered the wrong calling.
Why didn’t she pick the
One from her heart?
Reaching out her hand
She traced a pattern in the grime
And dust.
A pattern with runes that soon glowed
With almost tangible
Power.
She called for him
Praying silently that no one
Would disturb them.
Through the darkened doorway
He stepped through.
An easy
Welcoming smile on his face
And a sheltering embrace
Should she dare answer yes.
She thought back to before
And the pure love they’d had
And decided.
Reaching for the power inside her
She approached him.
Preparing to choose
She looked into his eyes
And sensed the betrayal behind her.
Falling into his startled arms
She whispered her choice.
He gathered her up as the room filled
With white-hot light and pain.
Cradling her gently
He carried her to his world.
Diving into the sheltering darkness
As he whispered a spell for healing.
The light reached for them
With cruel and hooked fingers.
But the darkness reacted
And shielded them from harm.
She woke
And smiled up at him.
She held him to her heart
And he held her to his.
They both loved each other
In the sheltering dark.
They shall live forever here
Inside the
Darkness.
