I think that it would be better if all positive relationships were friendships. Friends are a little harder to lose and are a lot easier to have plain and simple fun with. When you are in a romantic relationship with someone, you usually spend more time than is healthy together (especially if you got married or moved in together). Also, you tend to have a heightened sense of sympathy when in a romantic relationship. This makes it so that whenever your partner is sad, you may feel sad with them; causing you mental and emotional pain. Admittedly, this happens in good friendships, too, but I believe it is slightly easier to pull back and try to help when this occurs in a friendship. Because a romantic relationship can be very complicated, you can be pulled very deeply into it. This can make it EXTREMELY painful whenever one of these relationships end. Friendships don't end quite as easily. And when they do, they hurt, but in a different (and maybe less) painful way.
(My hypocrisy applies here.)
((Do not take this advice immediately, I have no experiences to back it up. I have never been in ANY type of romantic relationship.))
