sadly and softly the meadowlark sings
flying through forests on lightest of wings
her tune changes slowly, higher in note
until songs of happiness spring from her throat

look towards the sun as you fly all alone
think how i love you, you always have known
when you look towards the sun i shall be there
i'll watch as you fly without sorrow or care

as my meadowlark sings i'll look from above
and i shall protect her with sunshine and love
allthrough the valley and mountain tops to
my meadowlark sings, all the day through

meadowlark, meadowlark, look to the sky
know that i'll be here and please never cry
i'll lend you my light as you fly through the dark
so sing to me softly, my dear meadowlark

one day you'll make it, you'll fly right to me
again i shall have you, how happy we'll be
my sweet meadowlark, my precious child
i'll lend you my voice and we'll sing soft and mild

~the words are very off because i haven't heard her sing this since i was very young,
but this is the song she sang for me and i'll get it right one day.
