It's nearing the holidays. I realize this just now as I stood before the back door, a hand on the knob and ready to turn. It's cold outside and I can feel it eminating from the door window. Just think in just a few days, or a few weeks.. those little lined edges will be decorated in frost.
Frost that will cover the sleeping plantlife. The once green ground. The buildings.
Glinting icicles will be on edges of the roof , hanging like giant cave sculptures in the caverns I use to visit in as a child. They will look and be as dangerous as the already foreboding trees, bare of leaves, that reach their claws out at night toward the moon.
How can such a joyful time come from a season filled with death and void of life?
My first whole year away from my family is now halfway done. I only wish my brother could see the snow soon to come.
