I don't know if anybody in any of the northern states have been seeing this on the news, but Arkansas was declared a disaster zone about one week ago. By Obama, I think. It hit my city hard.
Surprising, because it was an ice storm. And usually it's so warm down here. If there ever is ice, we just sit back and lol at it until it dies. But this time - Arkansas=Bitchslapped.
The ice looked ridiculous, like a joke, it was all over everything. Just hanging icicles. An solid inch thick around power lines and tree stems - which was really pretty, but sucked terribly. The weight made the power lines and poles snap all over the roads and trees fall all over houses.
So we went without power for a week! And it was cold as all ********. All these people came to our house to stay - it's pretty big and we have supplies. Red cross everywhere, it was kind of surreal. And reminded me alot of Blindness, if anyone's seen it. [/dork]
Alot of the people who were staying here are gone back home now, they got power returned to this city pretty fast. Surprising, we're a small city. I think they might have only done it so fast as to keep people from robbing houses, which there was alot of.
But I have to say, though it was so cramped and public here with all these people around, I do kind of miss disaster-mode. Does that seem strange? There were alot of little intimacies with people in this situation i've never gone through before. I had to keep myself wired on Energy drinks quite alot this past week, had some bad headaches, but still it was nice..
Hng, the whole thing reminded me so much of that movie, I feel like such a dork for comparing the two. And I feel kind of crazy for wishing it would have gone on just a little longer. Can anybody relate? - ❀ -
