If I was your shooting star, all of your wishes would come true.
If I was your heart, I'd never skip a beat.
If I was your everything, you would always have something,
But, I'm not.

If I was the air you breathed, I'd always fill your lungs.
If I was your mind, I'd always think of me, wouldn't that make you happy?
If I were you tears, you'd never see me.
But once again, I am not.

If I ever meant anything to you, then how come you've never said so?
Is it because I am not all the things you want?
Or is it because I am those things, but am still not good enough?
I cannot ask you to change your mind, becuase I cannot be all the things that I am not.

If I were the words to your favorite song, I know that I would always cross your lips.
If I were your favorite shirt, I know you'd always keep me close, and I'd always smell like you.
If I was the fly on your wall, I'd always be there.
But, I am not.

I wish I could be those things; those things that would bring us close.
I wish that you were those things, so that I wouldn't have to say all of this.
I wish, so many times, that we would change our ways for one another, but we won't.
And we can't.

Had we more time to play these guessing games, I'd play them for all eternity.
Had we become different people, I do not think these words would have crossed my mind.
Had we ever acted on our emotions, then we'd be.
But, yet again, our ways get crossed in it all, and we elude each other once more.
